Customer Review: Great Mill for Dry Grains!

I researched grain mills and found that I didn't want a totally separate appliance for a grain mill when KitchenAid makes a perfectly good attachment for my mixer. And for a few hundred dollars less than the stand alone mill, I was sold!
I have had my grain mill for a few months. I use it on a 325watt stand mixer. After about 30 minutes of grinding hard wheat on the finest setting (approx 4 cups of flour), it does heat up my motor. I shut the machine off and let it cool down. I haven't had any problems with it.
I also ground up white beans (great northern beans) into fine flour to use as thickener. It did a great job.
I recently tried to grind rolled regular oats into "oat flour" and it did clog up the bottom output a bit. It was easily resolved with taking the attachment off the mixer and fishing a fork up in the bottom to break up the oat flour clog. It happened continually even though the oats are very dry. It seemed to happen less on a more coarse setting.
I can't wait to try to grind popcorn into cornmeal!
The hopper seems to hold about 2 cups of wheat. This unit is a nice weight and seems like it is very well made. I wish I had a Pro Series mixer to handle grinding up more at a time, but it's simple enough to use a few times a week.
It cleans up enough for my liking with a quick tap or two over a garbage can and blow the dust a bit. I store it in the cabinet below the mixer. This attachment is very easy to use and the adjustment works great, even with the machine turned on. Highly recommended product for those that want a good solution to too many appliances in the kitchen.
