Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KFP750OB 700-Watt 12-Cup Food Processor, Onyx Black

Customer Review: It's Big. But it's a Beaut!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had the 760 KitchenAid Food Processor for about a month now. It's my third Food Processor over a period of 25 years or so. My first was a Cuisinart which was a good enough machine that lasted many years, then just wore out. The second was a Black and Decker: much less expensive and boy, did it show. It was LOUD. It danced all over the counter, and worst of all, the plastic housing cracked at the places where the bowl snapped on, rendering the machine useless. So...after doing some research with Consumer Reports, which named KitchenAid as the best brand of the lot, I chose this one.
Honestly, the 12 cup size is bigger than I really need, as I only cook for three now. However, the attachments that come exclusively with this model, make me glad I chose it. I got an extra full sized bowl. This was great on Thanksgiving. I could process in the mini bowl, large bowl, and outer bowl without having to stop and wash bowls in between. Very handy!

I have never owned a stand mixer, so I love the egg whisk on this machine. It means I can whip egg whites stiffly to fold into cake batter without stopping to wash my handmixer beaters.
And...the citrus juicer. My hands are beginning to be arthritic, and when I'm squeezing half a dozen lemons for a recipe, it will save alot of stress and time. (It has a strainer built in to catch large pulp and seeds...I love products that show alot of thought went into them.)I also got the nice accessory box which is extra expense on smaller machines.

This machine is very quiet. Very powerful. All the standard shredders, slicers, etc. work very well. I like the fact that I got two slicers, one for thin and one for medium thin.
I had read in other reviews about the problem with processing liquids. I don't understand why this is, but I was relieved to see that there is a fill line on the outer bowl, so as long as you're paying attention, you shouldn't have trouble, not to mention how large the capacity of this machine is.
There was a learning curve. This machine is a bit more complicated to assemble and run than my other two. But after a half dozen uses, it's becoming second nature. Not a big deal.
So...yes, it's big. And if your counter space is at a premium, by all means, get a smaller one. It's certainly too large to be lifting in and out of a lower cabinet very often. That being said, though, I am glad I bought this model and expect to enjoy it for many years.

Customer Review: Wonderful BUT a few minor snags....
Summary: 4 Stars

I love KitchenAid, I've had a stand mixer for over 30 years and so when it was time to upgrade my cuisinart I decided to give KitchenAid a try. For the most part I love the unit, but there are a few snags that I will share with you.
First, when I bought the unit no one had figured out how to deal with the over spillage when you have liquid in the bowl...cuisinart has since made a lock tight system...I've had to deal with spills a few times, now I just make sure I don't fill the unit with liquid. I really wish they would fix this issue, I would purchase a new set of bowls if they did.
The work bowls...I love the smallest of the bowls and use it often. The medium bowl I rarely use and could do without. My biggest gripe is that I usually have to rinse all the work bowls out after using the mini-bowl because food and debris get into the seams between bowls...it's not a big deal, just annoying.
Finally...the blade holder. I was pleasantly surprised to see it included as most makers will require you to buy it separately. The problem is the top just rests on it...no hinge, no locking mechanism of any sort. As a result I have to keep a rubber band around it to keep the blades from spilling out if it tips over.
Now to give you the good news...wonderfully quiet motor that is so very powerful it will take you a few times to get use to how quick and powerful it is if your used to a cuisinart. Nice wide chute so no more cutting veggies to get them inside.
Finally, the customer service the BIGGEST reason to pick KitchenAid over Cuisinart. Call with a problem and they send you a part then and there...try that will cuisinart and after you send them back the part along with around 20 bucks (and that's if your in warranty, if your out of warranty it's even more!)eventually they will send you your part. Once I called them on a stand mixer I got for 70% off...got home and realised why...one of the attachments were missing. I called customer service and they sent me the new paddle...no charge, they didn't even ask to see a reciept and I hadn't had time to register it yet, I had just gotten home from the store.
So I'll deal with the little issues and take a KitchenAid any day...hope this helps you decide.

Customer Review: Hey, Big Boy, where've you been all my life?
Summary: 5 Stars

OK, first let me begin by saying this was my first excursion into the world of food processors, with the tiny (regrettable) exception of some sort of off-the-wall wannabe chopper-ette thingy back in the early 80s that is really best forgotten... However, said chopper soured my opinion on food processors in general for two-plus decades. Couldn't imagine the time savings of the processing itself being worth the clean-up afterwards. Boy, was I WRONG! This baby is the greatest thing since sliced bread! Stuff that used to take me forever gets done in literally seconds. Want to make hash browns? The shredded kind, where it's such a pain to grate the potatoes? Throw them in this baby & you're ready to go in less than a minute. I hardly ever made fried rice (probably only around twice a month, which is the same thing as 'hardly ever' to a 17-yr-old male who would live on the stuff if you'd let him), 'cause all the slicing, cutting & chopping of veggies took longer than the actual cooking process - especially chopping fresh garlic, which I HATE to do - but with this thing I've got it all done & ready to go in just a couple minutes. A batch of salsa takes no time at all.

The clean-up is really not that bad, either. I usually wash mine by hand, but it's dishwasher safe, so if I use it for meat products, I can throw it in there & know it's getting hot enough to kill the germs. I love that it has a separate box for the blades & stuff; it makes it really easy to find everything. In short, it just plain ROCKS!

The only thing I couldn't say anything about is its bread-kneading capabilities; haven't tried that yet. I always make it by hand (there's something so soothing about kneading dough that I've just never been able to go machine on that process). I suppose there could be a situation where I'd be pressed for time - or maybe just overcome with curiosity - when I'd try it out, but it hasn't happened yet. However, Consumer Reports said it was one of the few models that could handle it & they're usually right on the money.

Bottom line: if you're in the market for a food processor that will handle just about anything, this here hoss is it!

Customer Review: pretty good machine, really good customer service
Summary: 4 Stars

ok, I guess I should say that I love my food processor. I use it many times a week and have discovered the glories of making homemade all-fruit sorbet. Really delightful for someone who can't have sugar and thought that yummy frozen treats were lost to her. BUT I find myself wishing that I had bought the cuisinart instead. While the bowl capacity on the Kitchenaid looks huge, in reality I'm only able to fill it less than half full with liquid. That's kind of bothersome when trying to make large batches of hummus or sublime mango sorbet. It's no problem if all I'm doing is slicing peppers but I'm usually using my food processor to deal with more wet ingredients. It's better than my mini chop but I do wish that I was able to use more of the bowl capacity.

Certainly one outstanding recommendation for the Kitchenaid is the company's customer service (as mentioned in other reviews I think). A mere month after purchasing my processor conked out. The mini blade on the chef's bowl became wedged somehow onto the stick (I have no idea what the technical term is). It shaved off some of the plastic from the lid and I had to use a pair of pliers to remove the blade. What was left was a chewed up plastic stub which made it impossible for any of the blades to lock into place. I was on the phone with Kitchenaid within a few minutes and the result was that I got a replacement food processor in the mail in a week! Pretty terrific, I must say.

It's a big beast and feels powerful. It's also quiet enough to be able to carry on a conversation while running. That's pretty cool too. The blades feel a bit flimsy but from what I have read that's pretty true of most food processors today, sadly. Get it, particularly if you find a good deal like I did on Amazon.

Customer Review: Excellent Purchase
Summary: 5 Stars

I love my kitchenaid food processor. It is very powerful and the two bowls are very convenient. I keep it out on my counter so I can use it every time I cook. The storage case for the blades is very convenient (instead of sharp blades floating around in my untensil drawer). From the moment I took it out of the box I was a little in awe at how well made everything felt. Nothing about this machine is cheaply made ( Well, except the spatula that it comes with, which is very cheap and basically useless.)

I read a lot of reviews before purchaseing this item, and some of the things mentioned almost changed my mind. I find that it really does do a good job so I wanted to address some of the things I read about it:

1. Contents of the top bowl leaks into the bottom bowl: I have not experienced this. I have done everything from chopping herbs/garlic in the top bowl to making sauces (ie. tzatziki or veggie dip) in the top bowl, and never had a drop leak out to the bottom bowl. I think that the leaking some people report might be from overfilling the top bowl... in which case just use the bottom bowl.

2. Liquid in the big bowl leaks out ot the counter: I have not experienced this, though I am careful to watch where the 'max fill line' is. If I wanted to puree a soup or something larger than that amount, I just do it in batches or use a blender instead.

3. The bowls scratch easily: This is true. The first time I washed the big bowl i used the back side of a scrubber sponge, and it left scratch marks all over the bowl. To me, this isn't really a big deal, and most plastic does scratch the same way.

Hope that helps any potential buyers out there!
