Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KFP740WH 9-Cup Food Processor, White

Customer Review: Not as happy as I was at first
Summary: 4 Stars

I agree with the other reviewers that KitchenAid product is heavy and sturdy. It does a good job for the money. We purchased it to make easier work of making muffins and sauces.

My reasons for only 4 stars are:
- the work bowl and lid have broken, both shattered to be exact, after using about twice/week since February 2006;
- you have to leave the blade in place after removing the workbowl with more than 2 inches of liquids or it will pour all over the place; and
- with the blade in place it's difficult to extract the batter from the work bowl.

Other than these issues, we've enjoyed having the use of the food processor.

Customer Review: Kitchenaid KFP740 food processor
Summary: 4 Stars

After looking through the local stores for full sized food processor and finding nothing under $175 I was very pleased to find this unit (top rated by Consumer Reports) for a very good price. Delivery time was 4 days and shipping was free. My experience with the unit is similar to the reviews I read before buying this unit. It is quiet and powerful and everything seems to fit tightly and perform as claimed. The only thing that keeps it from getting five stars in my book is that it can't hold more than about 1" of liquid without the liquid overflowing the sleeve of the processor bowl that fits over the blade drive shaft and leaking out all over everything.

Customer Review: Very disappointed
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this in September and have used it a half dozen times, very quiet does a great job shredding and chopping BUT, even though the capacity is 9 cups, when you use it for sauces, salsas and liquids, you have to do it in batches (not convenient at all) or you get leaks through the center hole. The center spindle is way too short. I bought the processor for the purpose of using it mostly for liquids and I am completely disappointed it doesn't work for my needs. I also just discovered that it needed to be returned within 30 days of purchase so I can't even exchange it for something I can use......

Customer Review: excellent food processor
Summary: 5 Stars

October 5, 2005. This processor has performed admirably since we purchased it. It is heavy, which helps the machine to be very stable when processing heavy items (like potatoes). The bowls and top are heavy thickness plastic--very solid and sturdy. The unit will rip through food items such as cheese, so don't run it very long after it has grated the cheese or the bit of cheese that gets stuck on top of the bowl will liquify pretty quick (makes great cream cheese for finger tasters, though!).

Update July 2008: Still going strong and working very well. Happy that I purchased this product!

Customer Review: Disappointed fan
Summary: 2 Stars

I have long been a kitchen aid fan and am very disappointed in this processor. I have a relatively new machine with light use, but beyond warranty, and the large plastic bowl broke while chopping tomatoes. One minute it was fine, then a piece broke from the handle. Now the handle falls apart and I must hold it just so in order for the machine to work. I wouldn't call this durable. I have also been dissatisfied by the short center post that allows fluids to leak when the bowl contains just over an inch of food. Bad design! I regret having bought this appliance and do not recommend it.
