Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KFP740WH 9-Cup Food Processor, White

Customer Review: Nice but could have been Great.
Summary: 4 Stars

This food processor is really quiet just like it promised in the write ups. Nice and heavy, it can handle just about anything. The problem I have with it is I bought it because I wanted the big 9 cup but you really don't get to use the full 9 cups if you have liquids you are mixing. The design is such that the spindle lifts off to accept the mini bowl which then completely covers it. If you take the mini bowl off, there is no top on the spindle and liquids can go down inside of the unit. Bad design. I did not buy this to only use dry foods in it but it looks like that is all I will be able to do with it. Other than that, it does perform very well. It does take up counter space and it is heavy but the motor is so quiet it is worth it.

Customer Review: Breadmakers Beware - this is not the one for you!
Summary: 1 Stars

After 20+ years of owning a Cuisinart, I switched to this food processor because of concerns over Cuisinart quality. What a mistake this food processor is, especially if you want to use it for making bread.
- Dough does not ball up in this unless you run it forever, and even then the kneading is not as smooth as with a Cuisinart.
- The mini-bowl is a pain to remove.
- The unit is massively heavy, even moving it forward a couple of inches on the counter is a chore.
- The rubber feet stick to the counter and get dislodged when moving the unit.
- Huge chunks are left over between the blade and the lid when gratign or slicing.

Do I like anything about it? No. This is a dog, buyers beware.

Customer Review: Very short lifespan
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought the KitchenAid 9-cup food processor KFP740 in December of 2005. I have used it carefully, kept it clean, never dropped or damaged it, and not used it all that often actually. Fourteen months after I purchased it, the large plastic bowl began to deteriorate. Little pieces started breaking off it. I wrote the company, and they said they could do nothing except tell me where to take it for repairs. Now, 20 months after I bought the food processor, it has totally died. The handle came off in my hands, and as I examined it, it crumbled into dozens of plastic pieces. The machine is completely unusable now. It looked nice and ran well as long as its cheap casing lasted--but beware if you want this to survive beyond warranty.

Customer Review: Brand switch from Cuisinart to Kitchenaid
Summary: 4 Stars

I decided to buy a new food processor when the bowl on my Cuisinart food processor broke and I found out how much a new one would cost. After reading reviews on various websites I purchased a Kitchenaid 740 processor. So far I have been very pleased. I love the small mini-bowl for chopping small portions and its ease of cleaning. The machine is quiet and has worked well. The reason I am rating it 4 instead or 5 stars is because of the the following issues: one is that the the slicing blade makes fairly thin slices, and two is that you cannot put more than inch of liquid in the bowl-- a problem if you are going to make soup.
These issues can be lived with and I am enjoying my processor.

Customer Review: frustrating!!
Summary: 2 Stars

I replaced a Cuisinart food processor with this Kitchenaid model. The bowl becomes stuck on the base of the processor, and is very difficult to remove. This usually happens when I have the "stick" to which you attach the slicer blade to the base. It usually takes brute force wedging a screwdriver or other flat object under the base of the bowl to remove.

The other complaint I have about this processor is that although the handle is white on the outside, it is clear on the back side and open to the bowl. So all kinds of groaty things get stuck on the inside of the handle and turn black. It's very unappetizing.

Next time, I'll got back to Cuisinart.
