Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KFP740WH 9-Cup Food Processor, WhiteCustomer Review: Serious usabiity flaws Summary: 1 Stars
I got a similar design KFP750 food processor and now regret that.
When the chopping disk was used for the first time, it has play enough to touch the protrusion under the feed tube. So it shaved quite a few plastic shavings off it. My son was unpleasantly surprised when he found what resembled fingernails in his soup!
But the bigger flaw is the disk design and the feed tube position. The disk has the raised edges. They rise up and hold any stock that is on them. My previous Cuisinart processor had disks with the edge down. Now, the feed tube is positioned 1/4" from the disk edge. When the food is chopped (for exampe, cabbage), some shreds get stuck on the top of the disk. Normally, it would not be a problem, because any new stock would push it onto the knife. BUT, because I mentioned that the tube is 1/4" from the edge, the shreds that stick in that 1/4" will stay. And that causes BIG vibration! NEVER had such a problem with Cuisinart.
Because of that? I give it the lowest rating. It looks for me that appearance trumped engineering; nobody gave a thought.
Customer Review: Poor value for money Summary: 2 Stars
It took me about 2 days to realize that this particular model was a bad bargain. I wanted a medium sized unit with versatility so I thought that the two sizes of workbowls included with this model would constitute a nice middle ground. Boy was I wrong!
Kitchen Aid really needs to wake up when it comes to meeting the needs of customers who don't need or want large scale appliances. The housing of the KFP740 isn't any smaller than the one used for the 12-cup models so takes up just as much counter or cabinet space. On the other hand, it has only a standard mouth and a thin (2mm) slicing disk. I discovered that I could either could pay less money and get the larger model with a wide mouth cover, more discs, and a storage unit or pay $65 extra to get standard 4mm slicer and the wide mouth cover for this unit.
Even considering the return shipping charge, I decided that a 7-cup competitive unit with both the wider mouth and a medium slicing disk was a better bargain.
Customer Review: Goodwill earned Summary: 5 Stars
I am prompted to write as a result of what I feel to have been an startlingly good experience with Kitchenaid customer support. I bought the KitchenAid KFP740WH 9-Cup Food Processor seven months ago. I use it regularly but not frequently, and have been quite satisfied with its performance (quiet, powerful; minor overflows with liquids). Yesterday I noticed that the handle was breaking at the bottom of the bowl where it clicks into place. I called Customer Service (ID and phone number were easy to find on the processor; reasonable wait), and within minutes she'd requested a new bowl for me, along with a prepaid label to return the broken one--at no charge. Granted, this is what we all feel should happen when such things happen, but it when it actually did, I was very surprised and relieved and impressed. I am giving it 5 stars: four for the processor, one for the promise kept.
Customer Review: Food processor adequate Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this food processor because it was highly rated by Consumer Reports. I was a little hesitant after reading some of the reviews on Amazon.com but decided that I could live with the problems indicated. As the reviews had noted, the slicer is very thin, and I wish another, thicker, slicer were also available. It is difficult to get all the food in the feeding tube sliced -- some of it usually remains unsliced and whirling around the top of the slicer. I had to learn to handle the processor with a bit of force to attach and loosen it. It is not for those with weak or arthritic hands. The tiny bowl on top is of limited usefulness and I usually end up using only the large bowl. The blades are very sharp so be wary. All in all, though, the machine is a good one and I use it almost daily because, even with the hassle of washing all the parts, it saves much time and energy.
Customer Review: Fantastic Machine! Summary: 5 Stars
I love this processor. I had actually wanted the Cuisinart 7 cup machine. I was in a "must have" situation, and settled on this one, a little disappointed that I needed to settle. I am so impressed with this processor. It is unbelievably quiet. The 9 cup is a perfect size, but I am also getting plenty of use out of the little mini bowl that came with it. The accessories are perfect, and the machine gets so much more use than any other processor I have owned.
It is even easy to clean, and the bowl is so sturdy that I don't have to worry about it breaking from dropping. My only word of caution is that the blades are indeed sharp. My fingers can attest to that.
This was so worth the money. I highly recommend this food processor to anyone.
