Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KFP740CR 9-Cup Food Processor with 4-Cup Mini Bowl, Chrome

Customer Review: KitchenAid needs to go back to the drawing board with this one.
Summary: 3 Stars

I am a huge fan of KitchenAid. I think their products are usually the best and their customer service is commendable. However, I bought the KitchenAid 9 cup food processor because my little one cup "el-cheap-o" chopper should have been replaced long ago. I am disappointed at the design of the middle which is too short and makes a mess. Plus, often times what you are processing PRODUCES liquid (i.e.salsa). I looked at my old "el-cheapo-chopper" and found that it has the design that I think this one needs. It IS about 4 inches tall in the middle. (Actually, the four cup bowl that comes with it is taller as well.) That tells me it should be possible to make us customer's happy. I also feel that where the bowl clamps under the handle is a bit flimsey and I'll bet I'll end up breaking it and having to buy another one which will not be cheap. It does work well but the inconvenience of the middle and the flimsey handle makes me want to look a little harder for another one. Seems a good one is really hard to find. That's why I may stick with my KitchenAid.

Customer Review: Excellent choice for the money
Summary: 5 Stars

After reviewing several websites and stores for the best offer vs. features, I settled on this KitchenAid. The deal here on Amazon was great...ended up costing me $113.00. I have been testing it out for the past few weeks, in a number of ways. Probably one of the best features that sold me, was the 4oz. bowl that is located in the larger one. Certainly helps with the prep part of cooking and doesn't tie up the larger bowl. Another feature i liked was the touchpad buttons. One of the biggest complaints about the Cuisinart comparable product was the breakage of the plastic tabs. I feel like the touchpad buttons probably will not be as problematic. Most likely the most difficult task i will use this processor for will be bread, biscuit, pastry, pasta doughs, which for the small amount that i make this machine will hopefully stand the test of time. I am ordering the storage tray from the manufacturer. The $25 that it costs will still be less when all is said and done than any comparable vendor, make and deal.

Customer Review: Good processor, convenient mini tray, some obvious flaws however
Summary: 3 Stars

Pros:
- Sturdy, heavy construction
- Great looking, especially in chrome or red
- Mini bowl is an excellent innovation
- Extremely simple single speed operation

Cons:
- Mini bowl is very hard to pry up when in use, they didn't think it thru enough
- Plastic bowls cannot be dishwashed, if you try, it will scratch and permanently dull the bowls

Seems like obvious fixes that should have been implemented by now for such a high-end processor. Glass bowls or at least scratch resistant polycarbon bowls would be a big upgrade from the easy scratch plastic bowls currently being used. And the difficulty in removing the mini bowl is incredibly annoying when you're busy in the kitchen. You have to stick a knife or fork in the wedge to pry it up and then puts unnecessary strain on the larger bowl. Eventually one of the two or both will crack as a result of this and you'll be out of bowls for your $150 food processor. Again, at this price point, I expect more.

Customer Review: Chrome is Beautious!
Summary: 5 Stars

Well, I went from a piece of junk Black and Decker, whose bowl broke the second week I received it, to this wonderful quiet piece of loveliness. I got it on sale at amazon, only paid $104 and no shipping. You can't beat that. I found that the 7 cup was too small for making big batches of hummus and babaghanoosh, and the 12 cup was just too big, so the 9 cup fell right smack in the middle. Just by picking this machine up you can tell it is good quality, it weighs 21 lbs.

The first thing I did in it was shred cheese. My boyfriend who was in the other room was like you are using it, I can't even hear it. The motor is so strong and fast, it is very quiet and acts like it can stand up to any test you put it through. I can't wait to grate hard parmesean cheese for pesto in it, and the key hummus. My old food processor made chunky hummus, and not on purpose. I highly recommend it! Very easy to clean, and the four cup that comes with it, is great for small chopping jobs!

Customer Review: looks beautiful......but this thing is HUGE
Summary: 1 Stars

My low rating is only due to the incorrect dimensions referenced on the Amazon website. Sadly, I had to return this item. The height for the product is incorrectly reflected as 14 1/2 inches......it is closer to 15 1/2 inches. Since I was limited to a max clearance of 14 1/2 inches, I was unable to fit this unit on my counter. Since it is also a heavy product, I really didn't want to lug the product in and out of my cabinets as it weights at least 15 lbs. Since I already have to do this for my Kitchenaid Mixer, I know first hand how much of an inconvenience this is.

The Chrome finish however is very beautiful and although I didn't even turn this unit on, it is a recommended product by Consumer Reports. If size is an issue in your kitchen, I would strongly recommend searching for these products in a store to take some measurements before buying as they are BIG and will take up a lot of space. For me....well, I'll just have to keep looking.
