Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KFP740CR 9-Cup Food Processor with 4-Cup Mini Bowl, Chrome

Customer Review: Elegant, huge time saver and fun to use, only paid $110.oo
Summary: 5 Stars

Had mine for a week. Already made salsa twice, tabulee, apple crisp. Saves tons of time. Looks great on the counter so it's convenient to use. The 2 MM slicing disk is very thin. eg think fingernail thin. But the apple crisp tasted good that way actually. Parsly for tabulee works great if you shove/pack it in the food chute and put in the slicing blade. It chops it actually in just the right sizes. When I used the chopping/all purpose blade this didn't work without making it more of a green goo. The slicing blade is great for parsley. I used the allpurpose/choping blade for the tomatoes and onions and works great. The 4 cup work bowl is very convenient and the 9 cup bowl stays clean. minibowl can't use the slicing/shredding discs. This machine is quiet, quality, top notch at whatever it does. Read directions carefully. It's not a blender, eg. if very thin batter, only fill 1/3 to 1/2, if liquid only fill to line which is probably only a cup or less, if thicker batter, can fill 2/3 full, if solid foods, can be filled. This is probably the case for all brands. I love it and will use it weekly if not more often. I plan to order the 4 or 6 MM slicer disc from Kitchenaid. Got mine for $110 including tax at Bed Bath and beyond. They matched Amazon's $129 price when I printed it out and brought it in and then I used my 20% off coupon.

Customer Review: Excellent processor for the money
Summary: 5 Stars

Boy, am I glad I bought this processor. It is well designed and well made. You definitely get what you pay for.

The base unit is big (10" x 8" x 6" high) and heavy. But it is amazingly quiet. It has large rubber feet which prevent the unit from moving or vibrating on the counter. The motor has enough torque to mix or rip through anything dropped in it.

The work bowl is wider than the previous 9 cup model (7") which makes it very easy to work inside and remove the contents. Another nice touch is the bowl cover which fits over both the inside and outside rim of the work bowl to prevent spillage. The large food pusher is also a measuring cup. Many of the 12 cup accessories fit this processor, too.

The mini bowl accessory is useful because it easily drops into the large work bowl and then quickly chops small amounts of ingredients. The processor comes with the mini bowl & blade, dough blade, 2 mm slicing disk, 4 mm shredding disk and spatula. The booklet has 18 pages of well illustrated instructions (all English) and another 22 pages of recipes.

Final note: This item is securely packed in styrofoam. In addition, KitchenAid encloses the box inside a slightly larger shipping carton. This prevents the product and its box from being damaged during shipment from Amazon's warehouse - another nice touch.

Customer Review: Other reviews convinced me...this was my food processor!
Summary: 5 Stars

Based on others reviews, I was completely comfortable with purchasing this machine. The 9 cup base would more than serve my needs...and if I needed to process a smaller crop, the drop-in-bowl can handle it.

I received my shipment on a Tuesday, and by Friday evening, I had processed recipes for over 100 canning jars. I now have everything ready for winter, from BBQ Sauce, Taco Sauce, Pizza Sauce, Spaghetti Sauce, Crisp Dill Pickles, Mexican Hot Sauce, Giardiniere, etc. It's all canned and just waiting for us to open them and enjoy the harvest.

This machine was everything I'd hoped it would be...based on it being a KitchenAid product, and based on all the wonderful comments others left.

The day the food processor arrived, I went out to the garden and pulled crop and spent the wee hours into the night canning. Have been for the past several weeks and I am so pleased with the quality of this food processor. You get what you pay for. There were other "cheaper" models out there, but the reviews on this Kitchen Aid Food Processor convinced me that it was the "perfect" product. After using it several times, I feel it is quite the ABSOLUTE PERFECT FOOD PROCESSOR!!!

Enjoy this machine and feel comfortable purchasing it...it's THE BEST!!!

Customer Review: Love this food processor, but it has its drawbacks
Summary: 4 Stars

I use this processor to blend vegetable purees for soups, or to make daily smoothies. When blending, the motor is usually quieter than the Vitamix (although that powerful blender gives better results). For the price, it does deliver decent quality.

The drawbacks are that the KitchenAid Processor doesn't have enough power to completely obliterate frozen fruits. Often frozen chunks will float to the top of blades (even with enough liquid). It takes chopping frozen fruit into smaller pieces with a knife and 10 to 20 minutes to get completely smooth results for a smoothie.

Also, removal of the cup to pour out its contents (for smoothies) is less than a joy, and is unnecessarily messy when compared to the Vitamix. I realize that this is because this food processor is not meant to be a blender. Often, pureed fruit or veggies will end up leaking onto the central rotating mechanism where the blade attaches. Sometimes, this happens during blending, other times, when removing the cup itself. It's really annoying.

It's relatively simple to clean up, and has a safety device to not start until all parts are safely in place. Other than the above mentioned flaws, I like this machine.

Customer Review: redesign the handle!!!
Summary: 4 Stars

Just unpacked, cleaned, and ran the new KFP740CR. It was a replacement for a KFP500WH for which I can no longer buy replacement lids. This new model is almost identical to the old one but with enough differences that most parts aren't interchangeable.
My wife was constantly breaking the bowl handle and lid on the old model. Locking the bowl and lid into place took some force and my wife was never careful in how she grasped the handle.
I am disappointed that this new model has not made any major improvements in that one area where the old model failed. In fact, the new model is even more difficult to lock the bowl and lid into position. I guess I better buy some spare bowls and lids to keep on hand. If something can be broken, my wife is the one to do it; but except for the bowl and lid our old machine was still going strong after almost daily use for 10 years. Even the blades have held up well. I resharpened the old blade only once in the last couple of years.
Other than that, my wife loves these machines. They chop everything she has jammed into the feeder tube. If you are careful how you engage the bowl and lid onto the base, you should have this machine for a very long time.
