Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KFP720OB 7-Cup Food Processor with 3-Cup Mini Bowl, Onyx Black

Customer Review: works well but no accessories available
Summary: 3 Stars

I was so excited to receive this food processor and begin using it. I was thrilled with how fast I could prepare vegetables, but I found the slicing disc to make extremely thin slices--only 2mm is not very thick! I decided to look into buying some additional discs which could cut thicker slices. However, I soon learned by going to kitchenaid's website, and by calling them directly, that there are NO additional discs or blades available for the 7-cup version besides those that come with it. So, if you think you might ever want to purchase some other blades or attachments (julienne cutter, thick slice disc, etc.) you'd better go with a bigger model. I ended up returning mine for a 9 cup version. But I can't help but feel grumpy about it, because Cuisinart offers additional discs for their 7-cup models. Why doesn't Kitchenaid?

It was a fantastic food processor, but the options were just too limited! I asked the kitchenaid rep on the phone why that is, and she said they consider 7 cup models to not be full sized. It doesn't make sense to me, though--just because you're cooking for a small number of people, why would you automatically only want small slicing sizes?

If you don't think you will ever want to purchase more accessories for your fp, by all means buy this model. But just be forewarned that you will only be able to slice stuff reeeeeally thin.

Customer Review: Decent processor but made from cheap plastic
Summary: 3 Stars

So I've had this food processor for about 2 years now. The great thing about this is the size. I don't have a big place so I needed a smaller food processor that could still process a good amt of food and this fit the bill. It's a little bit heavy but I can still move it around no problem. It's still working great except the lid now leaks out food from the side. I've inspected it over and over and can't find any tears or holes or deep scratches so my guess is that the lid doesn't close as tightly anymore.

The bowl and lid does feel a bit flimsy and I think is made from cheap plastic as it'll get scratched pretty easily...but mostly are cosmetic scratches. I feel like if I dropped it on the ground though, it might crack.

But having said all that, I think I would purchase this again depending on my living conditions. I like how mine came with the smaller bowl as well, I like the size, the motor is still working great, and I can live with the price. But if I had my own house with plenty of kitchen room, I'd probably invest in a bigger and sturdier machine. I've had an older cheaper food processor before that I inherited from my mother from a no name company that worked better, made from sturdier plastic, and was a lot lighter, but it was just too big for my kitchen.

Customer Review: MUST Have Kitchen Appliance
Summary: 5 Stars

I always thought Food Processors were so "my mother's generation"- just another large appliance to clutter the countertop or take up space in the pantry. Boy was I wrong!

I carefully researched all food processor models and found that KitchenAide got by far the best. Originally I had purchased this food processor for the sole purpose of making my own baby food purees but once I got it, I found that I use it on a fairly regular basis!

The 7 cup capacity suits most of my family's needs and the 3 cup addition (which I didn't think I'd use) is actually really nice for smaller jobs. The buttons are all raised without notches, so cleaning up any spills is a breeze. Although the bowls and blades are dishwasher-safe, I have only hand washed mine and they still look brand new despite many uses.

I am in love with this appliance and actually looking to purchase additional cutting blades for it now as well. If you can afford the larger capacity one, I would recommend it, as I have found that when doing a large quanitity of something, I tend to have to do it in several batches. A must-have for any kitchen!

Customer Review: Just what she wanted!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this as a surprise for my wife. She loves to cook and had been wanting a food processor for making things like pesto, bisque and organic baby food. The KitchenAid KFP720OB got really good reviews on both Amazon and Consumer Reports and we have owned other Kitchen Aid products before and they have always been well built. This food processor is no different! It does everything my wife needed it to and she loves it. As a plus, the added smaller 3-cup bowl included made it much more convenient to make smaller quantities of things than always having to dirty the big bowl. (There is a same model that does not include the mini bowl, so if you want that, make sure you buy the right one.)

Clean up isn't too bad. The bowl and blade are dishwasher safe, but we typically hand wash them. We have had it for about 6 months now and so far it has met all of my wife's needs.

The only negative is it doesn't really seem to hold a full 7 cups. That being said, though, I would definitely recommend it. It has been perfect for all the day to day needs of a food processor.

Customer Review: Best of the best
Summary: 5 Stars

This workhorse is perfect for our family. The large 7 cup bowl is good for so many uses, while the 3 cup mini bowl helps save some clean up time. It does leak a little on the side if you are dealing with liquids, but solid items stay in the big bowl.

Since the buttons are flush on the unit, it makes cleaning it a snap. A quick wipe and you are done.

As with any white plastic part, it will stain depending on what it comes in contact with. I've pureed red chilies in there so my blade handle has taken on a bit of a red hue. A little bleach and quick cleaning usually removes the color.

The blades that it comes with have been a life saver for shredding - I've shredding carrots for a carrot cake in no time flat without hurting my arms using the old box grater. I used to avoid making carrot cake for that reason, but now make it more often.

My mother used my processor and loved it - she requested it for Christmas! It just makes cooking easier.
