Customer Review: Product Design Needs Improvement

I was very disappointed with the purchase of this Kitchenaid food processor. I had owned a Cuisinart for many years and after burning it up, I decided to go with the Kitchenaid based upon its reputation, the many other Kitchenaid products that I own, and the fact that this model offers a 3 cup work bowl included in the design. The processor itself is a work horse when used for blending, pureeing and mixing. The work bowl is also a very handy little gadget when you don't need the large capacity of the big bowl, but the shredding and slicing is a nightmare! My first experience came when I tried to grate an onion. The design of the cover has an extra lip so that there is a space between the rim and the inside lip of the cover. Thus, when grating, the food gets stuck in this lip, necessitating taking the cover off and scraping the food out from between the gap or lip. Also, there is a small space between the feed tube and the outer rim of the lip and the food gets stuck in there too. Okay, maybe this was a fluke for the first time try. On another try, I was making lasagna and the best part of owning a food processor is not having to grate the mozzarella cheese on a box grater, which (if you make a large tray of lasagna) you know can take a long time and your wrist and hand hurt like heck. I usually freeze my cheese for about 10 minutes so that it is very cold and much easier to grate. Well, the cheese stuck in the gap in the bowl and in the space between the feed tube and rim, and I had to dig it out with a butter knife. It was so balled up that it was useless. The cheese wound up in the garbage. I do want to mention that the slicing/shredding blade is not of the quality of the Cuisinart. It is much thinner and you have to look at it carefuuly because one side slices and the other shreds. In my opinion, the blade is not very sturdy like the Cuisinart. I called Kitchenaid and they were very nice and accommodating, but since I had already disposed of the box, they could not offer me a refund. They did, however, offer to replace the product with another product of my choosing of equal value. I have decided to go and buy another Cuisinart since I have never had any of these problems with my last Cuisinart. Sure hope Kitchenaid improves on the design of that cover and the quality of the discs. Other than that drawback, the machine has a great motor and mixes very well, but I would recomend going with a Cuisinart who are well known for their food processors.
