Customer Review: Good tasting coffee, but...
Summary: 3 Stars

I like this machine "pretty well." The positives are that the coffee tastes great. Also, I like that there is no need to turn the machine off. When it has brewed, the thermal carafe keeps the coffee warm (sometimes for 10+ hours!) without the use of a heating element. I also like the appearance of the machine.

The two drawbacks are: Sometimes, the coffee is hot, sometimes not. This variation is likely due to the water temperature from the tap. For the price of the machine, however, I don't think I should have to pre-warm the carafe with warm water. My other complaint is that the machine gives three loud beeps when the brewing is complete. That is fine if you're awake, but if you have set the coffee maker to brew in the morning in hopes of being awakened by the rich smell of freshly brewed coffee, you are instead awakened by a harsh series of beeps. (There is no way that I have found to turn off the beeps.)

On a side note, initially our coffee tasted metallic from the stainless carafe, but after a couple cycles of brewing vinegar it was neutralized.

Customer Review: Unhappy I bought this pricey machine!

I have owned this coffee machine for about 1 month now. I wanted a 12 cup machine. I decided to buy a Kitchen Aid because of their excellent customer service. I own other kitchen aid appliances and I am very pleased! BUT, I am soo unhappy with this machine!
1. It is very difficult to fill it with water. I use bottled water not the carafe to measure and I have trouble seeing the little white water level indicator to see how much I am filling.
2. IT DOES ONLY MAKE 3 MUGS. Cups are another thing. My husband and I get 1 mug each and I am left with 1/2 of a travel mug to take for my drive to work. (I'm use to at least 2 cups (mugs) of coffee each. I got that from my other machine.
3. I am using MORE grounds and yielding less coffee. No value there as I don't buy store bought coffee.
4. End result only OK coffee. In fact the last few days I have avoided making coffee at home and stopping at Starbucks. I guess I have a $100+ paperweight. {:(
This machine IS NOT worth its price.

Customer Review: Mmmmmmm......I love my lukewarm coffee from KithcenAid
Summary: 1 Stars

I have had this coffee maker for a few years. Since day 1 the coffee does not even get close to hot, especially if you put any creamer in it. You have to put your coffee in the microwave to get it hot, then it loses a lot of its flavor.

I have tried heating the carafe first, using warm water, etc. The water comes out of the shower at only 150F. This is about 50F short of proper brewing temperature.

The best coffee I have made from it recently was when I just used it as a manual drip. I boiled some water up, removed it from the heat for a few seconds, then poured it strait onto the grounds. This is the only way to get a good cup of coffee from this coffee maker. My wife, not knowing how I had made that pot commented, "Hey, did you fix the coffee maker?" "Not exactly" I replied.

Save your money and get something that will brew at the correct temperature or just get a manual drip cone.

Brian.

Customer Review: Nice coffeemaker, but....
Summary: 3 Stars

I received this coffeemaker as a gift. I really like the ease of the function controls and I like having a thermal carafe. The problem - the coffee isn't hot enough. I end up putting my cup in the microwave for a bit just to get the temp up. According to the instruction book, Kitchenaid recommends that you heat the thermal carafe with hot water before making coffee in order to get a hotter brew. Well, that's great if you're making it right then, however, I like to set up the coffeemaker to come on in the mornings so I don't have to get up and make it which means the carafe will be cold when the coffee is brewing. This, of course, means I don't get coffee as hot as I'd like. Coffee temp aside, this is a really good machine, easy to use controls and coffee tastes really good.

Customer Review: Great Coffee
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased the Javastudio coffeemaker as a replacement for a Mr. Coffee and I have been very pleased with the coffee it makes. There has been no change in the amount of coffee needed to brew the same amount of brewed coffee as with the Mr. Coffee. I always prewarm the carafe with hot water and use a separate pitcher to fill the coffeemaker. I have used the coffeemaker daily for a couple of weeks and have never had any problems with the temperature, quantity, or quality of the coffee. (I also roast my own beans for the freshest coffee possible.)

Update: After about a year of daily use, this coffeemaker is still brewing great coffee.
