What a deceptive little critter this is. It appeared to be much heavier & sturdier than my slightly rusted but otherwise intact 20 year old el-cheapo 5 & dime store egg slicer. Can't give you the old brand name (probably Ecco/Ecko?) because I was so impressed with my new KitchenAid that I tossed my shabby little old friend in the trash. :(
Keep in mind here that I only used this for hard boiled eggs, no mushrooms or strawberries, & I hand washed it (always fun with *any* egg slicer). On my third use (maybe a total of 14 eggs) one of the wires came loose, quickly followed by another. Yes silly rabbit! I took the shells off the eggs! LOL
Since KitchenAid is so reputable I thought that perhaps I'd just gotten a wonky misfit, so I stupidly bought another. Again, this time after just 2 uses (& still no shells!), a wire actually popped out, leaving the remaining wires limp & useless. I'm not rough on my stuff, but I went extra easy on it because of the first experience. Anyhoot, me Darlin' Hoosband picked me up a sturdy feeling, very pretty burgundy colored Farberware egg slicer. Another reputable brand. I know that's "off topic", but after only 1 use, 4 of the wires are already loose causing uneven, messy slices, & crumbs all over the place. I know it's not long for this world & judging by the reviews out here of other brands ... well, let's just say that I'm going back to the 5 & dime store real soon!
