Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid K45SS Classic 250-Watt 4-1/2-Quart Stand Mixer, WhiteCustomer Review: This thing is the god of my kitchen Summary: 5 Stars
I never believed the hype until I registered for and received one as a wedding gift a year and a half ago. This mixer is AMAZING! The motor is extremely powerful (although a little ear-piercing at the higher speeds) and the machine is super easy to clean. While I haven't made bread yet, the kneading hook did make short work out of a batch of seitan that I made from scratch a few weeks ago. My only complaint is that the plastic cover (which has a hole for you to dump additional ingredients in) is a little cheap looking/feeling in comparison to the rest of the unit and I get annoyed that I have to periodically stop the mixing to scrape up stuff from the bottom that the mixing blade can't seem to grab. Aside from that, this machine has turned me into a baker and THAT was a miracle all in itself. Also, it just looks fantastic out on the counter.
Customer Review: Leanna Z. Don't use for bread!!! Summary: 3 Stars
I received this mixer as a wedding gift. Overall, I like it a lot. It's a powerful machine and does a great job for many tasks. However, I would not recommend it for making bread dough. The fourth time I used it for making bread dough, the dough hook snapped in two pieces. Furthermore, every time I used the machine for bread, the bowl got jammed into the base and it was impossible for me to get it off. After several minutes of using full force, my husband finally got it off the base. When I called customer service about this problem, they told me that this sort of thing happens all the time and suggested putting the machine on the floor so you can use your entire body to forcefully get the bowl off the base. Sounds ridiculous to me. Something this expensive shoudn't be so difficult to use.
Customer Review: Works Great For Special Brownies! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm not much of a cook or baker, but every two months or two I'm compelled to make a bunch of heavenly brownies. This has been going on for ten years now and I've had this mixer for all ten years. Its just a simple and elegant machine that does what you tell it to do. Seems like a no brainer, but so many products come short on just doing what they were made to do.
So if you're in the market for making special brownies or even regular brownies (if you must), then I highly recommend this mixer. Throw the ingredients in the bowl (don't forget the secret oil) flip it on and walk away. It will do its job and be ready for pouring in minutes. 20 minutes of baking, 5 minutes of eating, wait an hour and you got yourself a yummy brownie tummy. Next, Wii bowling and a lot of laughing.
Customer Review: Kitchen Aid is First Aid for the kitchen Summary: 5 Stars
I bought my mother the 250 watt stand mixer and some attachments for Mother's Day. Both my mother and father (gasp) love the mixer. They have ground meat and made sausages and all kinds of other wonderful food. I had always wanted one, and never got around to buying it. I needed one of those really good gifts, and my parents just remodeled their kitchen, so I bought them their first Kitchen Aid stand mixer. They love it so much, and I love it too. I just bought the 300 watt ultra power stand mixer and can't wait to start using it. I give it 5 stars because the mixer is everything it promises to be. If you need more power for heavy bread making, then don't go for the 250 or 300 watt mixer. I have lots of friends who have had their stand mixers for years without any service problems.
Customer Review: It takes the work out of baking! Summary: 5 Stars
I recently purchased this stand mixer because my extremely old Sunbeam mixer was underpowered and lacked the features of the KitchenAid. Needless to say, I am extremely pleased with this purchase! I had been coveting the larger KitchenAid mixers for a while, but I was not able to justify their price tag. The 4 1/2 quart mixer is perfect for a home hobbyist/cook such as me. It has a VERY powerful motor and has handled everything I have thrown at it with ease. The recipe booklet included with the mixer is great - the pie crust and cookie recipies were wonderful, and I have never had mashed potatoes as silky smooth as the ones whipped in the KitchenAid!!! I highly recommend this mixer for its intended use - home baking and mixing (not commercial). Anyone who buys it will not be sorry!
