Customer Review: Adjust your beater to bowl clearance to eliminate chipping
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading these reviews, it seems that many people do not check their beater to bowl clearance. If a beater is chipping on the bottom, it means that it is too low. Sometimes, if the beater chips on the top, it means that the beater is actually too high, and the head can not lock properly, which can cause bouncing and chipping. You can look in your use and care guide, or go to kitchenaid.com to watch a video on how to locate the adjustment screw. If the mixer doesn't incorporate the ingredients in the bottom of the bowl, then the beater is too far away from the bowl. If you have a tilt-head mixer, the adjustment screw is located in the neck of the mixer-in the hinge-when you lift up the head, you'll see it. You can place a dime in the bottom of the bowl, and turn the mixer to "stir". If the dime moves around continuously, it is too low. If it doesn't move at all, it is too high and can't reach everything. It should scoot the dime around the bowl 1/4-1/2" at a time. I've had my beater, which is used a lot, for about 5 years, and it has no chips. If you have a bowl lift mixer, the adjustment screw is behind the bowl clip. If it's adjusted properly, you get the best mixing and the least wear and tear on your beater and bowl. The adjustment can change slightly over time.

Customer Review: beater to bowl clearance
Summary: 2 Stars

Recently, we discovered the existence of "beater-to-bowl clearance" relating to our 6 QT. KitchenAid stand mixer. Since we bought the mixer, it has left gray streaks when mixing anything white like icing, cream cheese, cake mixes, etc. We replaced the "metal" beater for a coated-metal one but the coating began to wear off. Recently, the online KitchenAid agent said the company not long ago added an online video on how to use the mixer. It would have been nice to know at time of purchase in 2007 that buyers should look for such issues as "beater to bowl clearance." This could possibly have been a serious issue when we bought the mixer! But now it's over 3 years old. This KitchenAid agent could only suggest that we have the mixer calibrated since turning the adjustment screw as shown in the manual did not resolve this problem. Considering the closest "repair" shop is about 300 miles away and they charge $190. plus s/h each way, this is not making me a happy camper!

Customer Review: WHY doesn't Kitchenaid make these out of stainless steel???
Summary: 3 Stars

I own two KA mixers and have used them heavily over twenty years. These beaters DO have a durability issue, and to me it'd be easy to remedy.

The older mixer came with a whip made completely of stainless steel, and the coated beater and dough hook were also of a more durable metal. At some point Kitchenaid started substituting aluminum-- a material which corrodes in the dishwasher, bubbles up (under the coatings, even) and results in cracked coatings and nasty-looking attachments which don't slide onto the mixer shank easily.

I see that some higher-end mixers are available with "burnished steel" attachments--this might be just what Kitchenaid needs to start offering for the lower-end mixers. Or they could just go back to whatever they were using 20 years ago. These beaters are just a big blemish on the face of what is a wonderful appliance.

Customer Review: 5 star duty, 3 star replacement need
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had my Kitchen aid for about 12 years, I love it! THe problem, as stated before, is the fact that the "metal" turns "bubbly" under the paint and the paint then starts to crack. This is not a favorable aging process. It does take several years to "turn", but when it does make you feel a little cheated, the price you pay for these machines shouldn't warrant this low-end occurance. While the beater lives it is SUPER! I make bread a lot in combo with the dough hook and it works great! Cookies, cakes , anything from scratch, you KNOW you'll be able to mix! Even something heavy or with nuts.. no problem! Kitchen-aid.. if you are reading this... Why ?! Why does this happen! The dough hook is still in prefect condition. I have other attachments and they are all heavy duty and GREAT!

Customer Review: Fast And Effortless!
Summary: 5 Stars

Kitchen Aid,
Thank you for creating such a great attatchment for your food mixers. This addition to the mixer is used almost weekly in creating "from scratch" recipes for my children who have food allergies. Many prepared items contain ingredients that they can not have, so I am constantly baking for them. The flat beater has been a major time saver because of the thorough mixing. It mixes the ingredients in half the time of past mixers that I have used. The sturdiness of the beater also allows me to mix much larger batches of cookies without straining the mixer.
It has been almost 10 years since I received the Kitchenaid mixer as a gift and I would not be able to cook with out it, I am so spoiled by it's efficiency.

Thank YOU!
