Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid Gourmet Essentials 2-Quart Tea Kettle, Stainless SteelCustomer Review: So far, so good Summary: 4 Stars
This kettle is a nice substantial weight, virtually all metal except for the padding on the handle and at the user end of the spout lid. The whistle is loud enough to get my attention, without being too "shrieky". It heats water quickly. I do need to use a hot pad to pick it up right after the water reaches a boil. The description "brushed stainless steel" is accurate; the brush marks are visible. The shape is less attractive to me than the shape of the same model with colored enamel; I chose this one for ease of cleaning and durability. Tea kettles don't seem to last well in our household; ask me again a year from now.
Customer Review: Great tea kettle, but disappointed Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this tea kettle two months ago, and I use it at least 5 times a week. I have absolutely loved it. I love the handle of it - it never seems to get too hot to touch although I usually use an oven mitt. My husband doesn't and it seems to be fine for him. My complaint now after two months of use is the whistle does not work properly. It has been going downhill for about two weeks now and the whistle is almost non-existent at this point. I am very disappointed. It basically defeats the purpose of a tea kettle. If you do not mind not having a whistle to alert you when the water is ready, then this is the kettle for you.
Customer Review: Great tea Kettle Summary: 5 Stars
I drink a lot of tea so this kettle is getting its workout. I really like it so far plus I picked it to match our kitchen remodel. The only thing that took a little time to adjust to is that the spout cap opens differently (pushes down) rather than my previous trigger-pull type spout caps. Stainless finish is staying clean too. This is probably slightly heavier than most tea kettles which I like, but it might be an issue for some people. The rubber insulating pads on the handle are probably fine for most people, but they are a bit small for me. Obviously, Kitchenaid is not designing their kettles for big guys! ;-)
Customer Review: Safety Issue - Should be Recalled! Summary: 1 Stars
Kettle has rubber pads on the handle and where the handle meets the kettle is also rubber. After about 3 weeks of use on a gas 5-burner stove the rubber pads started to melt and shoot hot molten rubber around the kitchen! There is permanent damage to my stove top and a safety concern as my wife tried to remove the kettle from the heat. The rubber dripped all over the stainless kettle and ruined it. Don't buy. I was wondering when I bought it how rubber and heat would work, guess I found out the hard way. This kettle could injure someone, I see a lawsuit in the works it they don't pull this item from store shelves!
Customer Review: I REALLY LIKE IT . . . Summary: 5 Stars
I have been wanting a tea kettle for some time now . . . and I finally decided on this one after doing a lot of research. The brushed stainless steel is so easy to clean, goes with any decor, price is reasonable considering the quality, and it sits on my smooth top range all the time. Reading other reviews told me that only the stainless steel worked on smooth top ranges . . . so I went by that in making my choice of "colors." However, I am very glad I went with the stainless steel for the previous reasons stated. As for the "whistle" . . . it works just fine and I can really hear it. I like KitchenAid products !!!
