I do not understand the negative reviews about this kettle. I've used it on both electric and gas stoves, and the handles are always cool to the touch. It boils water perfectly, and is positively wonderful to use, in fact, using this kettle actually improves my mood because it is so cleverly designed, it's like the Lexus of Tea Kettles. I have yet to see any room for improvement, or for that matter, any kettle that is even close to as good as this. You will never burn yourself with this kettle, it boils water effectively, the whistle works perfectly, there is no hot steam scorching your hand when pouring out the last drops, and it is beautiful. If you're in the market for a tea kettle, look no further, this is the one.Customer Review: Buy this... Now!

Best kettle I have ever seen, used, or owned. It is like an engineering work of craftsmanship. There are no seams along the bottom to split open, the handle does not get hot, the whistle can't be misplaced or anything, and the stainless steel variety won't chip or scratch or stain. This kettle is so well-made I doubt you will find another one at this price that is any better. Don't flinch on the price, you will only need to buy once because it has a lifetime warranty.
UPDATE - THREE YEARS LATER!
The KitchenAid Stainless Steel Kettle is still performing flawlessly and still looks and functions like it did the day I bought it. I still recommend this one as the best kettle you can buy. Buy this now!
Customer Review: Great kettle, but the handle on mine does get very hot

My husband & I like how easy this kettle is to fill and clean but once the water came to a boil the handle was blistering hot and burnt my hand. There are nice looking rubber grips on the handle, but it does not cover all of the metal and it does not protect your hand from the hot steel. Some people had no trouble with this at all and I'm glad for them, but nevertheless, some customers had the same complaint as I do and one customer's grips were melted off from the excessive heat. If you buy this kettle, just be sure to take it off the heat promptly once the liquid comes to a boil to avoid searing your hand. I have no other complaints about it. I like the brand. I always ended up with Kitchenaid brand for some reason when I look for a quality, design and functionality. I am an artist so I can be very selective about how the design should be and how it fits into my kitchen, color, etc. Anyway, for the most of part its great. Nice solid Kettle that I can show off to people in my kitchen with a nice cool design, however, I found it is bit dysfunctional to use when you have to pour in....you normally hold the kettle in one hand, and use thumb to open to pour the liquid, it is not best most comfortable location for the trigger to be reached when you are holding the I am being very picky. for starters, the product arrived with a very marred finish. don't know if all the stainless steel kettles have this, but was a bit disappointed. however, as it would have cost more to ship it back, i decided to keep it and deal and hope for the best.
in short: the kettle opening doesn't lend itself to easy cleaning. the handle gets rather hot to the touch when the water boils. the spout opener is a rather ill-thought-out concept -- pushing it down so close to boiling water/steam is not exactly a well-thought-out design feature.
in short, you'd probably be better served by a pan of water that has a pouring lip on the side. it's that disappointing.
