Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid Gourmet Essentials 2-Quart Tea Kettle, Stainless SteelCustomer Review: Decent teapot, but expected better from the brand Summary: 3 Stars
In all fairness, I bought this teapot to replace a teapot I loved (Le Creuset porcelain teapot), after I found out it was no longer being made. So, it really wasn't what I was looking for in the first place. The pros are that it is quite large and the water boils pretty quickly. Also, I was surprised to find the handle actually stayed cool (the one issue I had with my Le Creuset.) It doesn't whistle, which I noticed was a negative in some other reviews, however, I wasn't used to one that did, so I don't really mind. The one issue I have is that the spout has been leaking since day one. The water pours out in three different streams and would get all over my counter, if it wasn't for the huge bowl-style mugs I usually use for tea. Had I used a coffee mug, it would have been a mess. I really expect better quality from KitchenAid. While I won't return it, I wouldn't recommend it either.
Customer Review: Looks are deceiving Summary: 2 Stars
While this kettle is pretty to look at, its functionality is questionable. Since you cannot fill the kettle more than halfway without risking complete boil-over, the "2 quart" size is doubtful. I find that you cannot keep the whistle/stopper open for any extended period of time because of the way it's designed; the lid prevents the mechanism from going back far enough to remain open. Pouring from the kettle is awkward, usually requiring two hands (one to hold the kettle, one to hold the stopper open). The whistle itself sounds like something being strangled and/or ready to explode, depending on how much water is in it. If you only want one or two cups of tea and don't mind the occasional steam burn when pouring the water, this kettle is for you. This is the first time I have been disappointed in a Kitchenaid product. Here's hoping it's an aberration.
Customer Review: Not long lasting Summary: 2 Stars
I was given this kettle as a gift about nine months ago. It was used two-three times per day to heat water for tea. It worked fine but the handle got too hot to hold without hot pads if left on to boil for more than a minute or two. The whistle feature fell out of the holding about a week ago so it wouldn't whistle when the water reached boiling. I just left it on the stove for a couple of minutes too long and the water evaporated and the rubber around the handle base melted. Lovely.
Overall, it was a good looking kettle but didn't hold up to repeated wear and tear. It would probably be fine if you aren't hard on things and don't use frequently. It was also hard to keep clean. I am now looking for a stainless electric kettle now that won't give off a plastic smell.
Customer Review: Classy Chassis Summary: 5 Stars
I haven't had a teapot since the wife and I split ten years ago. Whenever I wanted tea or coffee, I just nuked water in a measuring cup. But a friend of mine told me beverages would taste more 'natural' boiled - so I researched some teapots, and I found one where the price and design were right, and this is the one I ended up with.
Glad I did. This KitchenAid whistling tea kettle has done the trick flawlessly. It boils my water quickly, lets out a blast of a whistle, and the stainless steel delivers pure, clean water for the beverage of my choice without a hitch.
It's easy to clean, is modern and shiny, and I get a lot of comments about it from friends. Solid as a rock too, so it fills the bill all around for me. I'd give it an A+
Customer Review: Not great..... Summary: 2 Stars
I have had this kettle for less than 2 months. I have the brushed stainless steel model, and I like the way it looks and pours. The kettle is substantial in weight, and the whistle is fine for me, no complaints there. However, this morning my husband pointed out, as he was going to refill the kettle, that around the rim of both the lid and the opening there are "rust" marks, and it would probably be a good idea to clean it. I took a soft scrub type sponge, and needless to say, the marks are not coming off. I really find this unacceptable. I have had many other stainless steel kettles that have never shown "rust". Not a happy camper. The thing was not cheap, either. Very disappointed. I would definitely not buy this one again.
