Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid Gourmet Essentials 2-Quart Tea Kettle, Stainless Steel

Customer Review: Pretty solid tea kettle.
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased the stainless steal model for my girlfriend after her old kettle began to rust on the inside. Of course I got caught up with all the on-line reviews and did an embarrassing amount of tea kettle research. What I like about it: It's stainless steal so hopefully it won't rust. The seamless design is nice so hopefully it won't leak. The whistle components are 100% metal so hopefully they won't melt. Overall it feels pretty solid and well-built. What I don't like about it: As the water begins to boil the whistle purrs nice and loud and then transitions to an unimpressive "whoosh" as the steam level peaks during fast boil. That's probably why they say to only boil at medium heat (didn't read that until later). Not that big of deal but I'd rather this thing scream at me when boiling at full throttle. Also, the packing tape they use to secure the lid leaves its adhesive behind. I scrubbed like hell and even tried to use rubbing alcohol to remove it with little success. Overall I'm satisfied with the purchase and believe I got a very good tea kettle for a reasonable price...and yes, my girlfriend likes it too. Note: super saver shipping only took about 3 days to arrive in Colorado.

Customer Review: Good kettle but has a few minor issues
Summary: 3 Stars

I have had this kettle for a few years now and I am going to buy another one. The only reason I have to purchase a new one is because I dropped the dang thing, luckily while it was empty, on concrete and now it wobbles on the stove due to the small asteroid-like crater on the bottom of the pot. Leave it to me to ruin a perfectly good anything.

The pot is sturdy (unless it strikes concrete at a high velocity) and it is well made. The handle does get in the way slightly while filling it with water from a spout. Especially if you have a water filter on your faucet. Also, the cover to the spout is slightly awkward to open but at least your hand does not have to be near the opening (which is not the case with all tea kettles!).

I am slightly puzzled by someone's claim that the rubber melted. I find this highly unlikely since it is silicone which is the same product that is used to make some baking sheets and pot holders and can go directly into the oven at 400 degrees or hotter.

Customer Review: BIG! Beautiful, and stylish.
Summary: 5 Stars

Yes, it's big, but I didn't think it was heavy. ***I JUST WEIGHED THIS KETTLE WHILE IT WAS FULL OF WATER AND IT ONLY WEIGHS 6 POUNDS. I can see that if you have trouble lifting a cat or bag of flour then you may have a problem here.

The craftsmanship is pure Kitchenaid. You will have no problem there. But beware that ONLY the stainless steel version is usable on glass-top stoves. The ceramic-covered versions are NOT. ***For those that don't know, you can click on this product to see what a glass-top stove/range looks like: Ceramabryte 28oz Cooktop Cleaner

The whistle is a bit screechy, but then again, you want it to alert you over the noise of the house.

The handle DOES get hot. Not burn-your-hand hot, but very warm. If you only touch the rubber part, you're fine, but you almost have to grab the whole thing to lift it and pour it safely.

I highly recommend getting the stainless steel version; it's beautiful and functional.

Customer Review: Love this kettle!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been using a $10 Copco kettle for the past year. The Copco kettle was small, cheaply made, took a long time to boil and the plastic handle got so hot I couldn't hold it long enough to pour a cup and it even melted in spots.

I decided to invest in a high-end kettle and purchased this stainless steel Kitchenaid; I couldn't be happier! I specifically chose this kettle over others as it contains the least amount of plastic parts and the base is seamless.

The Kitchenaid kettle is outstanding in both appearance and performance! I was actually surprised to see that it resolved all the problems of my old kettle, and boils water in half the time, (which was completely unexpected)!

When heating water, I use a gas stove on full flame and I have not had any steam spillage or over-boiling problems as mentioned in other reviews. The metal handle gets warm, but is not unbearable especially if you grasp it by the silicone padding.

This is leaps and bounds beyond my previous kettle and I aint' looking back! :)

Customer Review: Not for people who enjoy being burned
Summary: 2 Stars

There are 2 main issues with this kettle. The only issue I care about though is not being burned by stuff that should not be burning me. I actually thought the kettle looked nice when I bought it, but then realized later that Kitchen-aid doesn't test their products, just the look. Fashion over function should be their motto. If they did they would have noticed right away that when you go to pick it up, the metal handle with the small amount of rubber on it will burn you. Who would have thought that metal would be hot after placing it over a flame or on a hot surface?

Secondly when you pour the water out, the spout is too high. Thus you have to actually hold the pot almost upside down to get all of the water out. This is solved by over filling it and wasting a lot of water. The main issue with this is that unless you are pouring cold water, the steam comes up and burns your hand thus giving you a steam burn and a burn from the metal.

If this is too long the short of it is: If you don't like being burned, don't buy this.
