Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid Gourmet Essentials 2-Quart Tea Kettle, Stainless Steel

Customer Review: Great Kettle, but handle DOES get hot.
Summary: 4 Stars

I have owned this kettle for about a year and a half, and I have found it to be a really wonderful kettle.

1. The whistle is and loud and penetrating.
2. The opening for water is big enough to pour water in easily and large enough to clean without too much problem.
3. The kettle is comfortable to grip and pours easily, although it CAN be a bit heavy.
4. Easy to open finger spout that is always cool. Excellent sturdy mechanism.

A few issues to keep in mind:

1. The silicon on the handle works well to keep the kettle cool to the touch ONLY when there is a very small amount of water in the kettle and/or the kettle is not boiled for more than a few minutes. For example, if you have enough water in the kettle for one or two cups, the silicon will be cool because the kettle does not have enough time to fully heat up. If you let the whistle sound for a minute or so, or heat up a full kettle, then the handle will be too hot to touch, and it can be quite heavy and cumbersome to pour a cup of tea.

2. The design of the kettle does not allow for direct filling of the kettle from a water source like the sink or water cooler. We have our giant "kettle filler" cup kept next to the kettle to fill the kettle.

I have tried numerous kettles over the years, and have found this kettle to be very satisfactory for my needs. There's no such thing as he perfect kettle so these issues are tolerable for me when weighed against the otherwise great design and easy clean features.

Customer Review: Amazing
Summary: 5 Stars

Best I've ever used. Beautiful, stainless, not much else to say. To rebut some of the complaints thus far:

It's not heavy at all. It's about the same as any other kettle.

As far as the handle getting hot.. well, the core of the handle is metal, so obviously the metal part is going to be hot. However, the rubber grip is there for a reason. If you grab the rubber part, it isn't hot. This isn't rocket science.

Splashing? I don't know what these people are talking about. I guess if you're moving the kettle all around while you're pouring, it will probably splash, but that goes for anything.

Lastly, the sound. This is one area that is a bit of a double edged sword. Yes, it is a little "screechy" and LOUD. In fact, this is probably the loudest kettle I've ever heard. However, the whole point of it is to catch your attention, and it certainly does that very well.

In summary, if you want a nice looking, stainless, functional, well made kettle for a good price, you can't go wrong.

If you can't lift 5 pounds or have no control over the motion or position of your hands, you should probably just avoid kettles in general. If you don't want a loud, annoying sound, boil your water in a pot.

Customer Review: Beautiful Form, Great Function, Lifetime Investment
Summary: 5 Stars

I couldn't be more pleased with this kettle.

1. It heats water quite fast enough, even when one follows the clearly stated instructions to make sure the flame is no larger than the kettle's bottom and to avoid using more than medium high heat.

2. It keeps the water hot for a long time.

3. It has a well sized lid in addition to the pouring spout, so it is easy to clean.

4. It whistles loudly and reliably.

5. The pour spout is easy to open and stays open until you shut it; no spring mechanism to wear out.

6. The rubber cushioned handle feels good in your hand (although one needs be careful as to grip or else wear an oven mitt when the water is extremely hot.)

7. The heft and balance give a very solid feeling, which is an immediate enjoyment, while instilling long-term confidence that this kettle will last a long, long time.

8. The ultra clean, classic design looks great on the stove, where I keep the kettle available and on display.

I don't know what more I could ask of a tea kettle. I would recommend this to anyone who insists on quality, functionality, simplicity, beauty and value. I only wish there were more products like this one.

Customer Review: Everything i need in a heavy use kettle
Summary: 5 Stars

This kettle is an excellent value and is very well thought out. When I accidentally burned the bottom of my old green Kitchenaid kettle that got used 2-8 times a day, (same design) I did my research all over again and came up with this as the best value--Again. Only difference is the switch to stainless steel instead of enamel as the enamel did start to rust where the lid pops in after 4 years. Some of the most important features:

The kettle has silicone in the handle, lid handle and the mechanism that opens the spout to pour. This is wonderful. No need to hassle with a pot holder or worry about getting burned. It is also nifty to be able to flip the spout cover open in a snap to stop the whistle in case someone may be sleeping.

It has a good whistle that gets louder the longer you leave it on the burner-but not loud enough to give you a heart attack. Very important for those of us that do not stand over the kettle waiting for the water to get hot.

And last of all it looks good!
We are very happy to have the same kettle back.

The lid is a bit snug at first but loosens up after the first few days so no need to worry.

Customer Review: Solid tea kettle 3 years and counting!
Summary: 4 Stars

After my cheap tea kettle fell apart I knew I needed something solid and long-lasting. That's when I found this tea kettle made by Kitchenaid. I decided to go for the brushed stainless over ceramic for fear of cracking the ceramic coating. I've owned this 3 years now and I am still happy with it. Pretty easy operation, loud whistle, good thickness and weight, but don't expect to pick up the kettle by hand, it is still hot with the silicone handle. I use a mitt every time. My only complaint (-1 star) is it's not the easiest to clean. The inside is fine, but the outside had some splattering from oil/food cooking nearby on the stove and it's just hard to get off. I tried silver polish but the best thing that worked was 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water, scrub with the rough side of a sponge. Though, I may try a stainless cleaner in the future. Also I've left water in it for days and it hasn't rusted or had any issues. I can see this tea kettle lasting a while, now that it's up to 3 years. Thanks Kitchenaid.

Update: It's a little hard to clean. I tried stainless cleaner, didn't work. The only thing that did work was to soak in pungent ammonia and hot water, then wipe clean.
