Customer Review: Looks Good, but...

I own several KitchenAid products and they are all durable kitchen work-horses that have never given me any issues. Typically their products are well designed and work flawlessly. However, this blade grinder is the exception to the rule!
I am hugely disappointed with this product and would return it, if it weren't for the fact that I tossed the original packaging thinking this product would function like all my other KitchenAid products. This grinder is now likely to go into recycling.
The look, the feel, and the overall craftsmanship of this product are really good! The problem with this grinder is a design flaw which allows powder from what ever you are grinding to spin over the rim of the stainless steel cup and all over the inside of the plastic cover which makes a huge mess when lifting the cover off. I could almost live with that, but the worse issue is that the blades on this grinder do not produce a consistent grind. If you want a fine grind with your coffee beans forget it. This grinder will not break down all the "chunks" of bean to produce an even fine grind.
Do you want to grind spices such as black pepper? With this grinder you can forget that, too. The blade sits up high enough to where you have to use a very large amount of spices and again, the blades in this thing can't even break down black pepper to a fine grind. And, worse yet, if you tilt this grinder to grind a smaller amount of beans or spices thinking that will work... nope. The grounds simply fly over the top of the stainless cup and create a big mess.
I would have given this product one star, but I do like the craftsmanship. If only it could grind, then it would have been a three star product. If the design of the cup and cover didn't allow for ground product to cause a mess, then it would be five stars hand down. I give it two stars only to be polite to KitchenAid as a loyal customer. This grinder is a "must avoid" product, in my opinion.
