Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KidKraft Sling Bookshelf - NaturalCustomer Review: I was pleasantly surprised Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this bookshelf recently for my almost-two-year-old because
1) he has a TON of books
2) he loves to read and have them read to him
3) he pulls every book off the bookshelf to find the one he wants
4) he never puts them back again
5) I was going a bit nuts with the mess. Yeah, I know, kids are messy.
So I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. Since it wasn't that expensive (free shipping) I was expecting something to be kind-of haphazardly drilled and cheap looking. It was very easy to put together, the natural wood and canvas look nice in a neutral-themed room. The instructions were in English, the holes were drilled properly, everything was packaged nicely, nothing was broken, and it required only about 25 minutes and the included alan wrench to assemble. I did it by myself during naptime. He loves it. Not only can he see the larger books, he can peek in the lowest pocket to dig out and find the smaller books that don't show b/c they're too small. He's even put his books back from time to time by himself. That, in itself, is totally worth it. I may be buying another for his four-month-old sister shortly.
Customer Review: Does the job, worth the money Summary: 3 Stars
Our twin girls loved it immediately and at 20 months aren't trying to topple it over and don't see it as something to climb (unlike most everything else!). They enjoy getting books out and putting them in most of the time, but they do get frustrated when smaller books they can't see in the pocket block their way putting books in. Holds a good number of a books of all sizes. It came with an allen key to tighten the screws, which was thoughtful, but the tool was annoying in practice. It's a small key and at least once per screw it flew out (from the thumb tension of turning it) across the room, so don't have the kiddies standing there! The bottom wooden cross member split slightly as I turned the screws, both of them, so go slowly, try to magically line up hole you can't see with the screw when it's just through the outer piece, and don't over tighten. It held well in spite of the small cracks down there, but it could easily have gone the other way. The canvas was quite wrinkled and is not machine washable. The instructions were clear, all the parts were there. It does the job and was worth the money.
Customer Review: Great bookshelf! Summary: 5 Stars
I have a 2 and 4 yrs. old daughters, and this bookshelf is perfect for them. It is sturdy enough for both of my kids to stuff a whole bunch of books in it without the bookshelf falling apart. It is a perfect size for them to reach all the books because the shelf is not that high...around 28 inches in height and 24 inches in width, when assembled. My kids can take books in and out of the shelf with ease. It really depends on the size and thickness of the books to determine how many books fits in there. Overall, we all love the bookshelf...a little bit on the small size, but still it's a good size for my two little girls. I guess I can buy another bookshelf in the future if I want to put more books on the bookshelf. For now, I just put all their favorite books on that bookshelf for them to pick out to read...and the rest of the books( we have ALOT of books) are stacked in another bookshelf in my home office.Oh, and one more thing...assembly was soooo simple...usually I need my husband to assemble anything we buy..but this was so simple that I did it myself.
Customer Review: Great toddler bookshelf Summary: 5 Stars
This product fully met my expectations. It is small, but I was not surprised by the size based on the dimensions and reviews.
My 21 mo old has mostly small board books. Some are too tiny to see while in the pocket, but since the unit is short, I can point the small books spine down and she can see them when she looks inside.
We are able to fit 20 - 30 board books of various sizes on this shelf. I rotate her books so it just depends on which ones I put in as to how many we can fit. When possible, I put a book behind each book so I can fit more books.
The unit seems durable, but I gave it 4 stars because I doubt it would hold up to climbing. My daughter likes to climb, but doesn't seem interested in climbing this.
This product looks nice in my daughter's room and she really seems to enjoy it. I have noticed she tends to put most of her books away now that she has this shelf unit.
Assembly is easy. I did it myself in 10 - 15 minutes.
Customer Review: Does exactly what it looks like it does! Summary: 5 Stars
I was debating between 4 and 5 stars only because I gave my poor thumb a cramp using the alan wrench to assemble it. With that said, I put it together in about 30 minutes and didn't need any additional tools. I got the shelf in natural and it looks great.
Here are the highlights:
-Perfect height for my 15 month old--he can reach all the books so no worries of him trying to climb it.
-Super easy assembly
-lightweight
-seems sturdy
-holds a good amount of books
-takes up little space, which works well if you don't a lot of space to work with
A couple of things to note:
-alan wrench means a little bit of hand cranking
-don't tighten too hard or the wood may crack
-you can't see little books since they aren't tall enough to stick out (although that's really not a big deal to me--I may just stick those books in a basket)
Overall, I am quite happy with this book sling. It's doing exactly what I needed it for!
