The Kerr regular mason jar half-pint is perfect for filling with fruit preserves to give as gifts--not too much to break a diet but just enough to leave the recipient wanting more. The jars handle well and--like all glass--will last a long time.
Why Kerr and not Ball or any other jar maker? That brings to mind an old story about the young bride who wanted to cook a pot roast for the first time. She cut off one end and put the larger piece in the pot. Her young husband asked about that action. That's what my mother did, she lovingly told him. So, yes, the next time they saw her mother, they asked, Why did you cut the end off your pot roast? Yes, of course, her answer was: Because that's what my mother did. When they finally reached the grandmother, her answer was: It was too big for my pot!
Tradition. What we carry down in our family practices --and that includes cooking-- becomes a tradition with unknown reasons. That's why I use Kerr jars and lids rather than any other. My mother used Kerr! (Edit) Make that: My 89-year-old mother still USES Kerr!
