Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Kaiser KaiserFlex Silicone Blending SpoonCustomer Review: Great for any kitchen or as a gift Summary: 5 Stars
This is a thoughtfully created utility spoon. I use it all the time for cooking, stirring, and sautéing. There is a metal core to the spoon, so I'm sure over time it will break through and the tool will be useless. However, the metal core gives it the rigidity you need to push through a batch of homemade caramel or thick pancake batter.
I paid $4.99 at the Friday sale and I wish I'd purchased more. Bright/deep blue is not the color of my kitchen, but it is very 'delft-ish' and fairly neutral compared to Rachael Ray orange.
I used to use similar shaped melamine tools. They were cheaper, but I can no longer find them on the market. I think the silicone is better in hot pans anyway. Like others cited, I do like the long handle. The spoon itself makes an effective spatula for licking out the brownie bowl...a favorite pastime at my house.
Customer Review: Best kitchen utensil ever! Love it! Summary: 5 Stars
Got one of these four years ago because I was impressed by the strong reviews, and it didn't disappoint. Every kitchen needs one or two of them. I use it almost every time I cook and at fairly high temperatures, and it gets washed in the dishwasher. After four years of use, the silicone is just now starting to flake a little bit. My dishwasher tears a lot of spoons apart--if they have any decorative metal, like on the handle, it never holds up. Because this one has no seams--not one!--it has held up remarkably well. In fact, I just bought two more Kaiserflex spoons, including one that is a regular spoon rather than the pierced model. (The pierced one is just perfect for stirring gravy, creamy soups, or roux. Better than a whisk, in fact. Has never scratched any of my pans.)
Customer Review: great spoon, but needs thicker handle Summary: 4 Stars
I got this spoon free with a purchase from amazon, so I didn't expect much from it. Well, I was wrong. Now I use it almost every day. I use it for making scrambled eggs, I mix eggs right in the pan with the spoon, not fearing of scratching non-stick surface. It is great for making sauces where you have to mix the heating mixture constantly, and it is nice that some sauce will come through the hole, it works almost like a whisk, but without the hassle of cleaning out the wires. The spoon is really easy to wash.
My only complain is that the handle is quite narrow, and it is harder to grab and hold then my other kitchen utensils. I think if it was thicker the spoon would be even better, especially for mixing thicker batters or for people with arthritis in their hands.
Customer Review: Very useful kitchen tool Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this on impulse, and I've only used it once. It's perfect for stirring oatmeal on the stovetop: the flat surface effectively scrapes the bottom of the pan, and the corner gets into the edges of the pan. As a result, we had oatmeal without having to deal with the soaking and scrubbing of the pot. I look forward to using it when I make cheese sauce for macaroni and cheese, and when I make spaghetti sauce. I think any recipe that tends to stick would be easier with this stirrer. (Edited January 2010 to add: It is! This tool has been helpful for stirring anything that tends to stick: oatmeal, scrambled eggs, cheese sauce, and hot cocoa.)
Like others, I would rather have this utensil in a color other than blue, but I can live with the color.
Customer Review: Nice addition to my kitchen utensils Summary: 4 Stars
I was very surprised that this spoon (can a spoon truly have a hole in it??) was so stiff. However, it works just fine to stir the crock pot ingredients and I like the long handle. My other silicone items are very flexible, but since this is lined with steel it's very stiff. Not only is it stiff, but it has a slightly rough texture unlike any other kitchen utensil I've tried. The thing I like most about this spoon is that it's silicone from top to bottom, so I don't have to bother with pulling out the handle to make sure my spoon/spatula is clean throughout. This design makes it very sanitary. It's great for non-stick cooking and can withstand high temperatures. Also, it seems to be very durable.
