Customer Review: Perfect for those who don't make espresso.

For someone who brews with a variety of methods at home, with the exception of espresso, this is all one could ask for. The 16 different settings produce effective grinds for Turkish coffee, a French press and everything in between. At home I regularly switch between brewing with a French Press, Siphon pot, Chemex, Hario V60, stovetop espresso maker and Ibrik (for Turkish coffee). Whatever strikes the mood for the day right! I've been able to effectively dial in super tasty coffee with this grinder across all these methods with ease. There are more than enough settings to find that perfect grind for pretty much any brewing method you can think of with the exception of espresso (this is NOT a good grinder for espresso by the way). I've found the consistency of the grind across all 16 settings to be better than other more expensive grinders and nearly on par with the $5,000 MahlKonig grinder in the coffee shop where I work. Not bad for less than $100! Having a consistent grind is essential in producing great coffee as it facilitates an even extraction. Additionally a consistent grind makes repeatability of a good brew MUCH easier. Moreover, very few fines are produced by this grinder which is excellent for French Press brewing. Fines, microscopic pieces of the coffee bean produced during grinding, are inevitable but are minimized with a better quality grinder. The amount of sludge at the bottom of a cup of unfiltered coffee, such as a french press, is a direct result of the level of fines. Fewer fines = less sludge. That's a good thing in my book. For those of you who plan on brewing coffee with anything besides an espresso machine I can't recommend this grinder enough. The reason why I don't recommend this for espresso brewing is that the jumps between settings fine enough for espresso are far too large to properly dial in a delicious shot. While the capresso can certainly do a grind fine enough for espresso you are limited to two, maybe three settings. This is nowhere near sufficient to hone in on a perfect espresso shot. However, there are ample settings to hone in on a perfect non-espresso brewing method.
The only problem I have with the Capresso is it's tendency to retain grinds. Without any "assistance" the grinder retains around 2 grams of coffee, which is enough to mess up a brew. This problem is easily resolved by giving the grinder a few taps on the back at the end of the grinding cycle though. It ends up not being a major problem, but does require you to give the grinder some help.

For maximum aroma and flavor retention nothing beats the Infinity Conical Burr Grinder. Computer controlled special grinding heads cut the angles and shapes of the steel burrs to within 1/10 mm precision. Burrs are produced as matched pairs and are hand assembled in Switzerland for precise fit. The multiple gear motor produces the slowest grinding action of any grinder resulting in highest precision grinding from Turkish fine to percolator coarse. The Infinity is also the lowest noise conical burr grinder in its class. Timer can be set to grind from 5 to 60 seconds.
