Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Joyce Chen Stainless Steel Strainer 5 InchCustomer Review: Super Scoops! Love this spider! Summary: 5 Stars
Bought both the size 5 and 7. I use BOTH frequently, but size 7 is the one I use almost daily. I scoop vegetables, ravioli and pot stickers out of
boiling water safely with the size 7 (to avoid the breakage caused when you dump in a colander)!! The 7 fits in most pots despite the size. I like the size 5 for the frying pans and deep fryer to keep the breading intact or scooping seafood quickly. The wooden handles are long so you can avoid the hot steam and oil! No more carrying dangerously heavy hot pots to the sink. The strainers are sturdy with handles that are very secure. I don't store them in drawers. I like them handy in the counter tool caddy near the range...they clear the cabinets easily.
Customer Review: Stainless Steel Strainer Summary: 5 Stars
I love this item. I have used it every single day since I got it. And plan to buy a couple more so that I have extra in case one is dirty. You can't go wrong with this utensil.
I was making fried okra one evening and didn't want to get my hands all goopy digging the okra out of the corn meal. So I used the strainer, just scooped and jiggled it a bit to get the extra meal off the okra. Then I was able to just drop the okra in the oil. I was then able to remove the okra when it was done with that same strainer. It really made a difference on how much oil was removed when I took it out of the hot oil. And Best of all NO Goopy hands!

Because it has a bamboo handle, dishwasher is not recommended by manufacturer. However, we have put it in the dishwasher anyway without any problems. The ladle is very effective for fishing crabs out of a pot, or anything where you want the liquids to pass through. Because bamboo is fastened to the strainer, you may be concerned that it cannot hold heavy objects, but it is, in fact, quite sturdy. We suspect the same comments apply to the larger version:Joyce Chen Stainless Steel Strainer, 7 Inch We have not found any flaws to speak of.
Customer Review: Perfect Summary: 5 Stars
There seems to be an emphasis on mesh strainers in this country, and thats all I seem to find in the grocery stores. Perhaps thats why Joyce Chen created this product - deep frying is alot easier without a mesh because mesh strainers do not allow the hot oil to drain fast enough or completely. Then when this happens you end up with alot of oil soaked fried onion rings, calamari or pakoras - whatever it is. This strainer is a must have for proper deep frying.
Customer Review: good strainer Summary: 5 Stars
I love this strainer. I use it for fried foods, as well as, for retrieving eggs out of boiling water (when making hard boiled eggs). The quality is good and the price is not bad. The one issue I have had with this strainer is the clean up. Hand cleaning all the little wires and spaces in between can be a challenge (I've had to use a toothpick a time or two). Dishwasher does a good job though. 5" model works great for me because it fits in all my pots.
