Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Joyce Chen 51-0662 Saladacco Spiral Slicer, White

Customer Review: The best kitchen tool ever.
Summary: 5 Stars

I am so pleased with the Joyce Chen's Spiral Slicer. You put in a zuchini in 3 1/2 in. chunks, turn the handle a few times and you have a plate of beautiful long spaghetti. I like to add some toasted sesame oil, rice wine vinegar and whatever fresh herbs I have on hand with some nuts or chopped veggies some sea salt, it's healthy low calorie fast food. It has the mouth and fork feel of pasta. It is also great with pesto. On the other setting, I like to slice cucumbers paper thin and add some vinegar. I have never had such good results with any other kitchen gadget. It simply works.

Customer Review: Wish it were better
Summary: 3 Stars

I've had this for a few months and was really confused about how to use it. The instructions are really unclear. You need "fat" zucchini and carrots to make the "pasta" strands. When it works, it is great and makes some pretty "continuous ribbons" for garnish. I just noticed there is some rust at the base of the handle and don't understand why they wouldn't use non-rusting parts for something that is obviously going to get wet when you clean it. I would recommend it if you know what you're buying. I don't know anything else that does the fine shreads like this does.

Customer Review: Plastic Saladacco
Summary: 2 Stars

This is so frustrating. Some Saladaccos come with all metal blades, like it should. Mine, on the other hand, came with a plastic shredding blade. The Saladacco creates beautiful spiral slices, but it also can make thin strips from those spirals with the additional blades. Well, my additional blades are little plastic rivots...It can't even shred a zucchini. My mom bought 2, 1 came with the plastic piece, the other with the good metal piece. WTF? And there is no way of knowing which you'll get! The metal one is great. The plastic one sucks.

Customer Review: Love the slicer
Summary: 5 Stars

I don't really understand these negative reviews. I have owned this slicer for more than a year and have never had a problem slicing with it. It's a wonderful gadget for making zucchini "spaghetti" or ribbons, something that my grandchildren wolf down whenever I make it. Mine gets a lot of use in the summer when we have abundant zucchini from our garden, but I also use it all year round. I love this so much I'm giving five of them away for Christmas presents to people who are making an effort to eat in a more healthy way.

Customer Review: worthy of 4 stars
Summary: 4 Stars

Being vegan and gluten intolerant, I like the spiral slicer. I have used it for making zuccini noodles and potato "hash browns", and they turned out well. Yes, there is a thin slice of vegetable left afterwords, but if you read the directions and set it all up properly, the design on the vegetable (the zuccini in this case) actually looks pretty, and can be used as an edible garnish. Not worthy of 5 stars, because I feel it is somewhat hard to clean (but that could be just me!), but I still think it is great.
