I bought this mandoline because I had read good revues. This mandoline works well with zucchini and other soft vegis. I really wanted to use it to julienne carrots. For that this is a dangerous cheap kitchen tool. I am going to buy something more sturdy. I am sick of cutting up my fingers.

The Joyce Chen 12" x 3.5" Benriner Asian Mandoline includes a flat blade and three stainless steel shredding blades in fine, medium and course. These choices allow you to quickly and easily produce perfect - and perfectly beautiful garnishes and sliced veggies! Professional chefs use this adjustable mandoline to julienne strips or for precision cutting of firm vegetables and fruits as noted in The New Cooks' Catalogue - the definitive guide to cooking equipment. This Asian Mandoline Consists of a base that holds a razor-sharp straight blade set at an angle, a side knob to adjust the thickness of your slice; from super fine to 1/8", and a finger guard to hold your produce. Simply place the fruit or vegetable on the finger guard and slide it down the tray and over the blade; a perfect slice will fall beneath.
