Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Jokari Fizz-Keeper Pump & PourCustomer Review: It actually works Summary: 5 Stars
I was skeptical. But for $3 where I purchased it at a local retailer (hard to find) I figured I would give it a shot. We buy 2-liters for the weekends- I drink regular Dr. Pepper. I would generally have two glasses on friday...one saturday morning which was already losing fizz...and one in the evening which was barely tolerable. After that one I am dumping the rest- usually a bit under half the bottle at that point. (sometimes the kids would finish it not being quite as picky as me.) BUT...this little gizmo made a HUGE difference. On Saturday afternoon, the soda was still fizzing like it did when I first opened it. Saturday night, I could tell a little difference but it definitely still had fizz and was still enjoyable to drink (as I said above I would normally be ready to dump the rest at this point.) It is currently Sunday morning and I am still drinking the soda...and it still has fizz. It is definitely not as fizzy as it was even last night, but I certainly would not consider it "flat". Without this pump there is NO WAY I would drink soda this morning from a 2-liter that had been open since friday. There is just enough soda left for a small glass left- and I expect to drink that as well...I think it will be the first 2-liter I have actually finished completely. The first time I pumped, it took 4-5 pumps to get it pressurized, the second time about 6. When the bottle was less than half full it did take more like 15...(duh- there is more space to fill up.) Look, I don't know the science behind it and I don't really care. It works. Will it keep your soda for a week? No. But will it keep it good for an extra day or two so you can actually drink and enjoy all the soda you paid for? In my experience. YES. I will purchasing at least two more for my husband's 2-liter and the kids' as well.
Description of Jokari Fizz-Keeper Pump & PourNothing is worse than sitting down with your ice cold cola, only to discover that is flat. Using Jokari's fizz keeper pump and pour, you can re-pressurize your two liter bottles so that they retain their carbonation. Simply squeeze the pumping balloon, and make sure the seal is tight. With pumping, the soda's life will be greatly elongated, and you can flip the pump back on its hinge for pouring. Unless you're prone to malaria, it's a decent bet you won't finish a bottle of quinine-laced tonic water at one sitting--likewise, that bottle of sugar- and caffeine-free Coca-Cola that was brought to a Pepsi Lovers' picnic. And if there's anything sadder than a fizzless, half-filled bottle of cream soda taking up refrigerator space, please keep it to yourself. How to preserve the fizz in that 1-, 1.5-, or 2-liter bottle that wasn't finished? Jokari has created a solution with the Fizz-Keeper Pump & Pour, a simple device just over 3 inches tall that screws onto the bottle's neck, replacing the existing cap. By repeatedly squeezing the baglike bellows atop the unit until the sides of the plastic bottle (it's not for use with glass bottles) don't compress, you've effectively created an airtight seal and equalized the bottle's internal pressure. The pumping action can be pretty slow going, and the wait for the bulb to reinflate between squeezes can be frustrating, though the easy-to-flip release lever means the Pump & Pour need not be removed for the life of the bottle. As the name "Fizz-Keeper" suggests, it's all in an effort to ensure that Saturday's soda makes a gin and tonic effervescently refreshing, even on a Tuesday. --Tony Mason
