I almost bought one of these things at the grocery story today. I actually put it in my cart along with some soda. I read the side and then about 2 minutes later it hit me that it can't possibly work. Put it back where I found it, kept the soda.
When I mean it can't possibly work, I don't mean in the "the seal fails" way that the other two negative reviews have said it. I mean it in the "total violation of the laws of physics" sort of way. I'm embarrassed that I came within 20 minutes of buying it, I'm sure all my classmates and professors in *insert really expensive science college here* would have laughed that it took me more than a split second to figure it out. If you fell asleep in your physics class, look up "partial pressure", realize fizz is pure carbon dioxide, and you'll know what I mean.
(If you think this stuff works, I suggest you buy a second bottle of soda and empty them at the same rate to find out that it doesn't. The "works" part is probably the psychological action due to the seal breaking.)
In any case, I'm giving it an extra star because anything that is an air pump has got to have some pretty cool uses--homemade SuperSoakers leap to mind.
By the way, the version that was momentarily in my cart was the same brand and manufacturer, but had a straw. I imagine the straw does help a little at keeping the fizz if you never have to break to seal to dispense. But it'd even have more value as a SuperSoaker. I'd probably get the version with the straw.
