SAFETY ALERT for MY FELLOW CONSUMERS:
Don't make the mistake I did by even trying this product! I saw one of these pans hanging in a supermarket. I'd been looking for a small pan to cook one egg with and the size seemed about right. I paid several dollars less than the price here. In my opinion, the seller is attempting to make a profit by "dumping" this shoddy product on Amazon consumers -- at a jacked-up price even higher than store retail!
WARNING: the "non-stick" surface didn't even last through ONE USE! Seriously! I first washed the new pan in warm soapy water with a soft sponge, dried it with a soft towel and then put one short spray of olive oil in it and cracked the egg in. After cooking the egg (sunny-side up) on the electric burner on 2/3, I used a soft nylon spatula to help lift it from the pan. The surface was already scarred, and I'd hardly even touched it! EVEN WORSE: there were tiny bits of the "non-stick surface" still clinging to the underside of the cooked egg! I could have ingested that!
UNACCEPTABLE, under any conditions. This pan is manufactured overseas (in a very large country with a name that starts with "C" and isn't "Cambodia") under what I'm speculating here are appallingly bad working conditions: the maker(s) clearly didn't care about quality at all, so I doubt they pay their workers a decent wage either (I dare the seller to prove me wrong). It seems that Customer Safety is also not a high priority for them. The "non-stick surface" certainly wasn't DuPont Teflon® applied at the correct temperature during the manufacturing process, etc. Based on what I saw, some kind of toxic chemical may have been used to coat it, but at best it's possible it was just charcoal gray spray paint. I am dead serious.
Yes, I discarded both the egg AND the pan, BUT: to prevent anyone else from ever falling victim to this unsafe product, I first drilled a 1" hole in it with my drill press.
I also warned the Manager of the chain supermarket, but of course they still sell them there, months later (because "corporate determines the inventory").
SUMMARY:
1. Shockingly BAD QUALITY.
2. Potentially DANGEROUS to your health.
3. Rather UGLY, once you remove the paper "packaging" and get a good look at the handle's goofy plastic "chick" decoration.
4. The plastic handle also turns out to be a flammable plastic: after drilling the pan out, I was able to set the plastic handle on fire in a few seconds using a common butane lighter. (It's a good thing it didn't get knocked upside down on a hot burner!)
I don't normally even write reviews, but this pan is a lawsuit waiting to happen and IMHO Amazon should STOP offering this product (and/or stop doing business with this manufacturer/seller) and nobody should waste their money on it. Ever. If you want to continue to "Vivre", I'd AVOID this pan: hopefully, a word (or three) to the wise is sufficient here.
(Too bad the USGovt is cutting funding for Consumer Protection investigations!)
