Customer Review: POOR QUALITY CONTROL

I have been looking for a large heavy cutting board. I have a large peninsula in my kitchen so I wanted something I could leave out all the time. I wanted a hardwood board that was made in America and after a lot of research and review reading I settled on the Boos 24x18x2 1/4 inch edge grain board. I know that end grain boards are really a step up but edge grain boards can last many years and are less expensive for the same size.
As soon as the board arrived I opened the package and was completely disappointed. The first thing that I noticed was the three of the sections were very very dark with a stringy grain that could be felt through the plastic wrapping. Not only did it look bad but one knife cut would have started these stringy grains fraying. Also the short edges of the board are cut roughly with unfinished edges.
I would classify this board as second quality and certainly not a presentation piece on my counter. I have returned it for a refund and have ordered a handmade end grain board at a lot greater cost. I guess you get what you pay for.
