This is to add some perspective to these reviews. I have owned 5 John Boos 24 X 24 X 12 Blocks and EVERY one of them cracked seriously despite being oiled to saturation regularly with mineral oil. The problem with their products is their poor manufacturing practices. They do not maintain a standard moisture content of the components being glued together. It is impossible to prevent cracks when the components are shrinking at different rates. You cannot hope to prevent cracking and distortion in their products. As I said...I've been through 5 of them. When you pay many hundreds of dollars for a block...you'd certainly hope the manufacturer would have taken the necessary steps to ensure his product is not engineered to fail...especially if you're going to brand your name into the side. I've not had a block last longer than 45 days without cracking despite gallons of mineral oil being applied to the surface. Who has time to cuts anything on the block...all your time is devoted to "oiling" the shrinking wood. Buyers beware.
