The illuminated magnifier does just that...illuminates and magnifies to a nice 5X. However, since there is only one bulb on one side, the illumination is brighter on one side of the object viewed. The bulb is a small 2.5 volt bulb. Also, it is advertised as "hands free". This is not the case since you must hold the switch down to continually get light. It doesn't stay on by itself. The base is all plastic as is the lens so it easily scratches. It is made in China.
