Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Jack LaLanne JLPJB Power Juicer Juicing MachineCustomer Review: Good output, but pain to clean Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this juicer about 2 months ago. I use it about once a day.
Overall, I'm pleased but I do feel a few things in the commercial are misleading.
Clean-up is a pain. You need to take the entire juicer apart. I usually just rinse it under hot water and air dry, then run it through the dishwasher once a week. To save some time I usually line the pulp catch with a plastic grocery bag. Also, in the commercial Jack raves about how little pulp ends up in the catch container. He's right....because 90% of it never makes it into the catch! It just sticks to the top of the inside.
The manual is misleading. In one part is advises you NOT to juice soft fruits and veggies like avocados and bananas, but a few pages later there is a recipe that calls for avocado -- go figure!
The juice is yummy, and it does seems to produce quite a bit. The only complaint about the juice is that I find I'm actually spending more money at the grocery story b/c it takes so many fruits and veggies to make one glass.
Customer Review: Juicing Art Summary: 5 Stars
I am an avid juicer. The JLPJB is a great value for the money. I am always amazed by how good fresh juice looks and tastes when compared to store bought processed "juice". The Power Juicer is easy to clean (I have a video cleaning it in less than 2 minutes on [...]my website dedicated to the wonderful JLPJB) Also I have many tasty recipes for you to try using your Power Juicer at home. Lastly, if you juice fruits/veggies sequentially, you can achieve beautiful art in your pitcher. This juicer is not awesome with leafy veggies, but if you ball them up and mix them with other items, you can still get some juice out of things like spinach, kale, and other green goodies. A little goes a long way with those items anyways. Happy Juicing.
I also recommend a good sharp knife like this Victorinox 47520 Fibrox 8-Inch Chef's Knife to get the items small enough to fit down the hopper.
I have to go now, time to make some fresh grapefruit juice!
Customer Review: Great product! Summary: 5 Stars
I've watched several infomercials about this product. Honestly I thought it was more hype than anything, until I watched it with my father one night and he seemed very interested in it. I seriously thought I could just get a cheaper one and it would yield the same results, but I admit I was wrong.
Not only do you get more juice from your veggies and fruits, but the pulp is absolutely dry and able to be used for other recipes. Not to mention that hey, it's fun to use. Once I got the box and cracked it open, we were already itching to try a particular juice recipe. We immediately created our concoction before I went to work, and I had energy all day. Very impressive.
Set up and clean up are a breeze. It's not particularly loud, which is great because I live in an apartment. The Juicer is very conveniently placed and the booklets included have awesome recipes and the instructions for care are very easy to follow. If you're frugal like I am, and don't mind recycling pulp, this is the juicer for you.
Customer Review: Excellent Juicer- Down with the Nay-sayers! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm a fairly practical individual. I bought my Jack LaLanne POWER juicer used. 3-years old, paid $40. It was used frequently the first year and then became a shelf flower the next two. But it was well cared for in the first year of use. I've owned cheaper juicers-all hand-me-downers or used.
The first nugget-of-goodness came when I discovered how little effort I had to put into preparation. My experience with my previous juicers was that the majority of my "juicing" time was spent cutting fruit and veggies into small enough pieces to fit down the hatch. The opening to the blade is so large and the motor so powerful in the Jack LaLanne, that my juicing time was reduced by half.
The second nugget-of-goodness is it's quiet enough that I can juice while my kids are still in bed in the early morning without the worry of waking them. My last juicer was so loud and vibrated so much I think we registered on the local richter scale at a 2.3.
Well worth the money. I would buy another one.
Customer Review: Suicidal! Dead in a week! Summary: 1 Stars
It was our 1st juicer and the last Jack Lalanne's juicer we'll ever purchase! Using it felt like abusing an already near-death old man. It was cumbersome to set up and even more so to clean it up after use. There's only one speed for everything from hard veggies like carrots to soft fruits like oranges, and boy O boy I sure felt guilty when shoving carrots down the chute and watching the machine struggle for dear life! When it came to juicy fruits like an orange, it so eagerly swallowed it up and spewed the juice right out of its opens spout down below, uncontrollably, most of which ended up on my cloth. I tried very hard to hold back the urge to return it back to the store thus add more to the land fill; so I decided to make good use of it for as long it could handle. At the end of the 1st week, it chocked on half of an apple, let out a smoldering sigh of sadness of burnt rubber and drop dead. Jack Lalanne's Power Juicer, may your R.I.P. I am sure you are finally where you wanted to be now.
