Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Jack LaLanne JLPJB Power Juicer Juicing MachineCustomer Review: SCREWED AGAIN! Summary: 1 Stars
Several years ago, after watching the famed strongman sell his product on an infomercial I decided to make an investment in my health & I purchased "The Power Juicer." Initially, I was impressed. All claims seemed to be confirmed, quiet, powerful, and I wasn't naive to the amount of cleaning that would be required & quickly adapted a routine that made the cleanup fairly painless. About 2 months after my purchase, I noticed the plastic screw that the blade connects to, was cracked. I talked to the Power Juice people & they sent me a new one after returning mine to them. I recall being quite pleased with the way this was handled.
Fast forward to about 2 weeks ago. I hadn't used The Power Juicer for some time & when I started assembling it I heard a crack when I started screwing the blade in - you guessed it, that very same screw had completely cracked off.
After considering the effort in contacting the Power Juice people, packing up & mailing said juicer along w/ $30.00 for the return, I made a bold move. I went online & purchased a used juicer for $10.50 + 15.00 shipping. The pictures looked good & it was missing the pulp basket. WHAT A BARGAIN! When the juicer arrived I unpacked it & immediately inspected this screw. It was cracked.
I have to say I was more angry at "The Power Juice company then the person I purchaed this juicer from. I've seen this in other products as well & it absolutely drives me bonkers. Think about this, the very powerful motor- which it is, and that they guarantee for life, is transferring its energy to the blade that pulverizes any fruit or veggie its way, is depending on a plastic screw to hold up under not only the incredible downward force of the food being jammed into it, but also the constant screwing & unscrewing of the blade. THEY EVEN GIVE YOU A SPECIAL TOOL TO TIGHTEN THE BLADE DOWN ONTO THIS FLIMSY PLASTIC SCREW!!
I've heard the defense before that "it's to keep costs down" or "it's the only way to make the product affordable." Well, The Power Juice people have come out with their new & improved stainless steal models. I haven't inspected the inards of these models but I bet they still have that poorly concieved, mis-engineered, flimsy plastic screw just waiting to fail for anyone willing to plunk down $150.00.
Customer Review: Great for Beginners and Great for the Price Summary: 5 Stars
This juicer is not perfect. But it works very well. I've had mine for 4 years now. I just completed a 30 day juice fast. And it worked very well for the entire 30 days. That's 30 days of juicing every single meal that I consumed. It has it's personality. But all of the issues are manageable.
I highly recommend this for the beginning juicer. All too often people think they are going to juice all the time. But when it comes down to it. Many will juice for a month and then it becomes another kitchen gadget collecting dust. So I'd recommend easing your way in with this juicer.
This thing is a work horse. I'm happy with the juice extraction. I love the taste and quality of the juice. Here are my recommendations for it's flaws:
Don't put it in the dishwasher. I put it in there and it stained the inside a brownish color. It's clean, just not white on the inside anymore. No biggie. Just not great.
Turn the juicer away from you when you juice. Juice splatters when it comes out. So point it to the backsplash or something that is easy to wipe. I also hold the pitcher up a bit when it comes shooting out so I catch more of the juice. It's not much juice that comes flying out. But enough to splatter. So I try to catch it.
If you're switching juices from say veggie to a sweet fruit, I pour a little water down the chute to wash it out a bit because not all the juice comes out (like 1/2 ounce).
It takes about 7-10 minutes to clean. It's easy to clean. I never use soap since it's only fruits and veggies. The tray inside is the one piece that I don't like cleaning. I imagine it is tough to clean on any juicer. It only takes a couple minutes. Just use the brush on the outside first over running water, then scrape the inside over running water.
Those are about the only flaws that I see. I'm surprised that this thing doesn't have a higher rating. I love my machine. I may upgrade someday to a breville since I'm a pretty serious user nowadays. But I'm happy.
And of course, the the fresh juice is amazing! Be sure to risk it and try beets, fennel (if you like licorice, and sweet potatoes. They surprised me.
Customer Review: Customer Beware.....please read my experience with Jack LaLanne product.... Summary: 1 Stars
Amazon why are you carrying this product? I notice that you no longer carry the Jack LaLanne Health Master 100 Blender that I purchased thru you 18 months ago. So here's the scoop, 18 months ago I purchased Jack Lanne's Health Master 100 Blender. I've enjoyed and benefited from the protein shakes - at least 4/5 times a week - just as one will enjoy and benefit from the juicer drinks. However, about 2 weeks ago the blade inside the two-liter pitcher froze. It does not move. Thus the product is totally unusable. And, I'm totally dead-in-the-water. I've called the
Jack LaLanne telephone number on the back of the Owner's Manual 3 times. They refuse to help me. They tell me the "shipper" is the only one who could/should help me. The shipper, Firefly Buys, tells me that's crazy (after 3/4 emails) and they're "really sorry but they can't help and that I have to address the problem with the manufacturer, and that, of course, would be the Jack LaLanne company". So, I think you see what's happening here! Plus, Amazon tells me they cannot help.
I have consistently explained that, after 18 months, I DO NOT expect something for nothing. I ask, please tell me where the pitcher can be repaired and I am happy to pay for the shipping plus the repair. OR, where I can purchase a replacement pitcher and I am happy to do so!!! I am not expecting that after 18 months usage, plus knowing that the 60 day Jack LaLanne Warranty has expired, that I am entitled to a "free anything". However, I am adamant that products sold in the USA should have a life longer than 18 months. So, if manufacturers and/or the companies distributing their products are not willing to go to bat for the consumer who, by the way, paid $162.95 for the Jack LaLanne Health Master 100 Blender, than is it to follow that we will soon become a total dumping ground for all the products that last less than 18 months and must be disposed of because there's no repair/replace remedy?
I would definitely not recommend purchasing a Jack LaLanne product.

Customer Review: Well-made workhorse Summary: 4 Stars
We got this juicer 2nd-hand from our son when he was moving. He'd used it for several years before us. We've had it a year now and use it constantly as we both have health problems that are helped with raw veg. juice.
My husband did all the work for the past year, but he recently had to work out of town. This means I've had to learn to use this for myself.
I'm normally a "reader" and read every manual before operating. Needless to say, being the 3rd person in the chain after two men, there was no manual.
This juicer is very easy to learn and use. The juicer is faster if you cut larger fruits like apples into quarters.
I wish I had read Joe the Engineer's review before using mine for the first time. I'd filled the chute, turned it on, and nothing happened except a burned-up motor smell. I pulled the plug, took everything out, and turned it back on. I was relieved and pleased to see it still worked. I put some veggies in, and they juiced right up! I can certainly see the quality of the motor from this. And it's still working fine with daily use.
My husband always rinsed this right away after juicing. However, he only scrubbed the blade and strainer with the included brush. I was shocked to see the fine filmy stain on the inside of the plastic parts. I've been working on scrubbing these off with the green plastic side of the sponge, but it's hard work. If you wipe all surfaces with a soapy sponge right after juicing, you can eliminate this. It won't take you much longer to clean it in this way, and you will keep your juicer from staining.
There is an orange handle that comes with the juicer that is used to spin off the blade. My husband warned me to not tighten the blade on too tightly--just a little. I have followed this warning with great results. The juicer juices just fine, and the disassembly for clean-up is easy.
We had a Vita-Mix juicer years ago, and this is much easier to clean.
Customer Review: Happy overall Summary: 4 Stars
Overall I'm very happy with my new juicer. I have made a new juice every day since I received my juicer (2 weeks now). I only have 2 mild complaints: 1) wish it were less of a hassle to clean (I clean after every single use-it takes up my entire counter when it's apart, and I worry that pulling apart so many pieces so frequently will put too much wear and tear on it quickly) and 2) I wish the spout was higher on the machine (as it sits right now it's really low on the machine, leaving you to use about a 6 -8 oz. glass under it-the recipes given are almost all larger than that, so you either have to figure out how much juice each plant provides and divide to make smaller portions or do what I do and use your hip to hold a larger cup up at an angle underneath the spout and pray it doesn't slip).
I love the recipes that come with the juicer, and I love how this machine is helping me get more fruits and veggies in my diet. I'm excited to try something new every day, and already have quite a few favorites. The juices leave me full long through the day, so I'm cutting back on "bad" calories and replacing with healthier calories. Now if only they would publish a book with recipes JUST for the pulp left behind so I would consume those important fibers as well (or maybe a book that gives a recipe for juice followed by a recipe for the pulp left behind from that particular juice).
I'm willing to bet that most of the complaints I've read are from people who didn't read and/or follow the directions given in the beginning of the book. I do worry about there being so many all-plastic components though....here's to hoping my plastic screw doesn't crack.
P.S. yes you can buy the accessories separately from Jack Lalanne Power Juicer web site.
