I have used the old traditional mouse traps, which were always a pain to set. They would go off prematurely or not at all. I tried the plastic "safe" traps. It did catch a mouse one day, but only by its foot. It was hopping around the kitchen dragging the trap behind it and scaring the daylights out of my wife. I finally caught up with it and held it over an open baggie while releasing the trap from its foot. The mouse landed in the bag, but jumped right back out before I could close it and it ran right back into the kitchen past my wife causing another fit of screaming. There had to be a better way.
After reading many reviews, I decided to buy the Eaton Multip Catch Mouse Trap. I caught four mice within a month using a little peanut butter on a small cracker place between the two entry tunnels. The trap sat for a couple weeks before I caught the first one, so be patient. Having the clear plastic lid is nice because you can clearly see when you've caught a mouse.
My only complaint is getting rid of the mouse after you catch one. The directions recommend that you take the trap and mouse a mile or more from your home before releasing. Since the weather has been cold, the trapped mice don't want to leave when I open the top and set it on the ground. They huddle inside one of the tunnels. In one case I finally gave up and shook the trap violently until the mouse dropped out. In another case the mouse couldn't be shaken out the first several times I tried it, but eventually I got it out. Perhaps in warmer weather and during the day, the mouse would be more likely to leave on its own with the top left open.
Two traps came with the purchase. I put one in the kitchen and one in an adjoining room where I saw signs of activity. I caught mice in both locations. Another nice feature with this type of trap is that I can leave them out when the grandkids are visiting and not worry about them getting injured. We have been mouse-free for a month now. I am very happy with the product and recommend buying it despite the few issues I've had in letting them go.
