I was a bit skeptical before purchasing this, because of some negative reviews I had read. However, my last Henckels can opener had lasted approximately 20 years, so I thought I would give it a try. I'm glad I did! This is a gem of an opener, though it takes a bit of getting used to the way it works. Instead of cutting into the top of the can lid, like most can openers, this opener essentially separates the entire lid from the can at the edge, and does not leave any sharp edges on either the can or the lid. I love the way you can easily scrape out a can without having the edge of the lid in the way, as was the case with my old can opener. I even use it for cans that have easy-open pull-tops, because it makes them easier to scrape out. The rubberized handle makes the opener easy to hang onto, and the opener is solidly made, as all Henckels products are. Another nice feature: the lid stays on the opener after removing it, which allows you to use the leverage of the opener to pop the lid off after you have scored the lid all the way around, and you just turn the crank backward a little to release the lid while holding it over the garbage can. You can easily tell how far around the can you've gone, too, because the mechanism leaves a slight crease in the top of the lid. I would highly recommend this opener to all but those with the weakest of hands, because it does take a bit more effort to turn the crank, since it is kind of small.
