Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of J.A. Henckels International Fine Edge Pro 8-inch Stainless-Steel Bread KnifeCustomer Review: Excellent bread knife Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this knife for over two years and routinely use it to slice bread and to chop hard chocolate. Although some of the points of the serrations have dulled (probably due more to the chocolate than the bread), the knife still slices through a hard baguette (or even a tomato) with ease.
The JA Henckels International branded knives are less expensive and feel less substantial than the more expensive Twin/4 Star/5 Star etc. series, but this bread knife gets the job done. I have top-of-the-line Shun chef's and santoku knives which I love, but I would never consider 'upgrading' to a top-of-the-line bread knife because I can't imagine it performing any better than this one.
Customer Review: Good bread knife Summary: 4 Stars
After reading other reviews about this knife, I decided to purchase it. I'm very pleased with the knife. It is stout, study, and has a good weight and feel in the hands. Also, it goes right through bread, neatly slicing it without any tearing and without leaving excessive crumbs. Naturally, I've had the best luck on loaves that have cooled somewhat before slicing begins, but the knife didn't do a half-bad job on bread right out of the oven. Be very careful with this knife if you leave it down in the sink in dishwater though! It's just as sharp on fingers as it is on bread!! This bread knife is a great buy for its quality. I'd buy it again!
Customer Review: Gets the job done! Summary: 5 Stars
Brand name is not an issue when it comes to bread knives. Bread knives are harder to sharpen because of its serrated blade, so they are basically just a tool which you use it until it gets dull and then toss it away. You really don't need to spend too much on it!
This knife works equally as well as a Wusthof one, for a fraction of the price. The weight of the knife is heavy enough to slice through a loaf of baguette easily without having to put in extra wrist power. The serrated blades are sharp enough so that it leaves no crumbs, and the length of the knife is perfect to cut both long loaves and short ones. Highly recommended.
Customer Review: good knife at a great price Summary: 4 Stars
The Henckels Int. Fine Edge Pro 8-inch bread knife is made in China, and the quality certainly reflect that. But, luckily, so does the price. I'm very happy with how it slices. The only reason I didn't give it a 5star is because when I received it, I could tell that the points of the serrated edges are not cleanly sharpened. There are some slightly benttips and extra steel. But I smoothed it out by placing the flat side down on a flat sharpening stone and slide it back and forth a few times. I definitely would not pay the original price for this, but at [the price], it's a great deal!
Customer Review: A must if you bake your own bread Summary: 5 Stars
This knife is very sharp and has a comfortable grip. It is well balanced and feels solid and substantial but not too heavy. I received my Pro 8-Inch Bread knife as a gift with a block set, out of all 12 knifes in this set this is my favorite one. It goes through a freshly baked loaf of bread without any effort, no squeezing or crumbs. My knife is made in Tailand out of shiny stainless steel (not that high carbon steel that is impossible to sharpen) and it doesn't require sharpening. I wash it in a dishwasher and it seems to do fine. I highly recommend it.
