Our knives were in pretty awful condition - I was getting tired of pushing the blade of the steak knife back in the handle every time I sawed through a piece of meat. Sure I'd love to have a set of top-grade Henckels but given the price of something like that plus the fact that we don't use knives that often, I figured this second-tier set was worth a try. The knives are nice and sharp. The construction quality is decent and it suits our purposes fine - they look good, cut well and fit in the block like they are supposed to. So what if they don't do well in the dishwasher? How much trouble can it be to hand-wash a knife? For $..., they're a fine deal. I'm glad I bought them.

We bought this set over 20 years ago to replace a low quality set given to us as a wedding present that didn't hold up. All these knives have kept their edges and not developed nicks or scratches in the steel from daily use dispite the abuse from 2 children and a rough husband! They all look and work almost as well as they did when purchased! I don't know if Henkels has changed their manufacturing process for these knives over the years, so I can't speak to the negative reviews listed. However, if I had to go out and buy another good quality, all purpose kitchen knife set today, this would be the first set that I would consider purchasing!Customer Review: Never sharpen another knife again.......

These are the greatest knifes I've found for everyday use. The best part is, their as sharp as the day I bought them!. They never leave my kitchen counter top and always sitting right next to the cutting board . They sit nice and compact and out of the way if needed. I've owned these knifes about 6-7 years now and they look as new as the day I purchased them. I also run them through the dishwasher with all other flatware and have never had a problem with them ever. I have other knife sets that the sharpening stones cost more than this whole set of knifes cost. I would recommend these knifes.

J.A. Henckels has enjoyed its good name in knife industry. Even though this set is J.A. Henckels international, the price for this set is decent for the quality received. I made this purchase long time ago and still find it very useful for chopping. The sharpness of the knifes made the chopping much fast. The con side of the knife is the water stain is very hard to remove from the knife. The knife losses its shine after several usage.
Overall, I will recommended to purchase few good knifes for meat chopping and vegetable. Other than that, this set of knifes works great for meal (steak cutting), vegetable, and cheese.
