Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Isi 11-Inch Silicone Oven Mitt, BlueCustomer Review: Gloves that actually work Summary: 5 Stars
These gloves address an important issue--protecting hands even when wet. With these, there is no possibility of getting burned unless liquid were to seep in from the top (very unlikely).
I have the blue ones, which are easy to find in a cluttered kitchen. They are a but difficult to hand so I end up leaving them "holding on" to the oven handle.
They fit my hands well, though they may not work so well on smaller hands. I can handle all sorts of hot items from the oven with no problem. One note of caution: while they can used to grab items out of boiling water, they do eventually get hot enough to burn your hands, but only when almost fully immersed.
Customer Review: Whale Of An Oven Mitt! Summary: 5 Stars
I have used the Orka Silicone Oven Mitt for almost two years and think it's absolutely great. It's been well used for cooking, baking and grilling and still looks like new. My hand is of medium size for a guy and I have no trouble lifting anything with the glove. I think it would make a great gift for campers. A burn at home is bad enough but even worse when you're away camping. That would definitely ruin the best of camping times. Using the Orka will safeguard your hands and arms from burns both at home and on a camping trip. I've used it to retrieve a spoon in boiling water without being burned. Another handy camping/picnic item is the Towel Trekker. ~ The Boss
Customer Review: truth in advertising Summary: 5 Stars
No more singed, unclean or burned oven mitts. Excellent gripping power. Easy to clean, therefore no more dirty mitts between regular washings. I did some testing myself. Placed glove, with my hand inside it, in boiling water. I did feel some warmth, however I discovered I had more protection from the boiling water than I thought possible. I also use it when I'm barbecuing and it's great. Received my first mitt as a gift and have purchased additional mitts for myself and as gifts for others. Highly recommend purchasing the Orka silicone oven mitt. Yes, I too have a small hand, however, the benefits of this mitt far outway any negatives.
Customer Review: Dear ORKA, listen up.... Summary: 4 Stars
Okay, by now everyone has read how bulky and awkward these gloves are. They are right. In a world where Rubbermaid can come up with some pretty good-fitting washing gloves, ORKA should come up with a few SIZES, as one size NEVER fits all....
However, everything else about these gloves is FUN! I stuck my hand in boiling spaghetti-water (how brave is THAT), picked up a hot pan (as usual sticking my thumb in the goo), and pulled out the toaster-oven rack to see if my cheese was melted. NO owwies and the grease cleaned right off the glove....and the blue one matches my blue silicone spatulas...TOO COOOOLLL
Customer Review: The lesser of two evils Summary: 2 Stars
I decided to replace my worn, cloth oven mits with these because they were getting worn and so thin that they no longer protected my hands from heat, especially wet heat and spills.
Now, I've only used these silicone mits twice, but so far I am underwhelmed. I find them extremely unwieldy and inflexible. I didn't realize they were quite as thick as they are.
Having said that, I think I will probably get more used to them. They have performed as expected in the realm of insulation and that was my big complaint with cloth mits. I guess I traded for the lesser of two evils here.
