Customer Review: Clumsy grip, and very hot and sweaty to use in practice..
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought a pair of these for their 500 degree capability...and that's about all I got out if them.

I have size 7-8 glove hands, and these are at least a good fit.

In actual use on BBQ, grill and oven work, they:

1. quickly make one's hands hot and drip with sweat because they are waterproof
2. are way too stiff, and hard to grip things with, because of the rigid, thick silicone, and rigid containment of the thumb
3. because they are completely waterproof, they would be good for working in and around hot liquids, that would penetrate cloth or leather gloves

I've gone back to lined leather and lined thick cloth gloves, and welcome their dexterity, and not having sweaty, hot hands encased in these "heaters".

This was a great idea in 2001. Not now. If you insist on having a silicone material, there are smaller silicone "grabbers" or "glovelets" perhaps 4 inches in length to fit just the fingers and thumb in, that are far easier to use for hot utensils and pots in the oven. Perhaps in a few years, silicone will be not as stiff to work with, and then we can try a pair.

Customer Review: Top gadget at 2002 Excellence in Housewares Awards
Summary: 4 Stars

I saw this at a kitchen store in an outlet mall on my drive back from Wisconsin, they seemed like a great idea. I hate taking a boiling casserole or chicken dish from the oven and worring about another burn soaking through the fabric mitts. That is not a problem with these. YES, you can actually put your hand in boiling water or even the previously mentioned casserole without worry of future skin graphs! I stuck mine in a pot of boiling water to test a noodle, and felt no heat at all. You can even turn meat on the BBQ.

They are also, surprisingly, comfortable. Not sticky or clammy feeling inside. And it is for a lefty or a righty. Clean up is simple, toss it in the dishwasher.

My only complaint and reason for 4 stars, is the awkard fit, at least I find it so. Would probably fit a mans hand better, the 2 holes for the fingers are longer than mine, though not to much longer. Long nough that I am not certian I have a good grip on whatever I am handling. Overall I am quite thrilled and pleased. I also prefer the blue ones over the translucent ones, the blue is more attractive.

Customer Review: Great material, terrible fit for women
Summary: 3 Stars

I ordered this because I have used silicone in baking and it works nicely. I expected it to perform better than the Kevlar gloves I currently use, which BURN you during spills because the cloth absorbs liquids.

Alas, this glove must have been intended for men. The "finger" part is about two inches longer than my longest finger. The thumb prevents you from pushing your hand all the way to the end of the finger part. The material being very thick, it means you are usually trying to fold half an inch of bouncy, rubbery stuff between your hand and the handle of whatever you are trying to grab. Cookie sheets are far easier to move than casseroles. Imagine big nubs at the ends of your fingers. Awkward.

However, it is fairly heat proof and is safer from that point of view. It's also an attractive blue, well made and has grippy "teeth" that help maintain a good grip even on a slippery surface. I'm happy enough with the material that I'm shopping for pot holders made from it. The FIT is what gave this item a lower grade. If it fit well, it would have been a 5.

Customer Review: Poor fit detracts from neat product
Summary: 3 Stars

This oven mitt looked like a great product; I loved the idea of being able to stick my hand into a pot of boiling water. Unfortunately, due to the poor fit, it is useless for most purposes. I find that I rarely use it, and instead just use a pair of silicone pot holders.

As others have said, this mitt is made for someone with enormous hands. When your fingers don't reach all the way to the tips of the glove, it's difficult to grip things. The material is also thick and rather stiff, not flexible, so the thumb part doesn't move very far from the "fingers" part.

It is useful for gripping flat, wide things (like cookie sheets), but that's about it. I once tried to use it to take a muffin tin out of the oven, and I ended up crushing one muffin with the thumb and still dropping the tin because I couldn't grip the small rim. I couldn't even pick up a small bowl with it unless I were to hold it by the rim, with the thumb dipping into the bowl!

This product is an example of a great idea that just didn't work.

Customer Review: Not for grabbing small items
Summary: 3 Stars

It works fine for holding a roaster pan, or the handle of a fry pan, but not for grabbing small items, such as a small knob on a pan cover, or a small piece of food, or picking up something small on a flat surface. I am a female with a medium sized hands and when I wear it, there's about an inch of space between my finger/thumb and the top of the mitt. Once the item is between the area of my fingers and thumb, the mitt can hold it pretty well, but to get the item into the area between my fingers and thumb can be a challenge, and in some cases, a total impossibility. For example, I find it easy to pick a corn cob floating in a potful of hot water, but if I were to pick one from a pile of corn cobs it would be very difficult. Don't even think about picking a kernel of corn from the table. In other words, if you need to grab or pick up something with the tip of your fingers and your hands are small to medium, you can't use this mitt.
