Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Imusa VICTORIA-85008 Victoria Cast Iron Tortilla Press, 8-InchCustomer Review: horrible product! Summary: 1 Stars
I rate this product zero stars.
When I received this product, I opened the box and the product is greasy.
The inside of the box was black from the grease, but the greasy film on
the press was clear. I washed the press immediately. It is of very poor quality-there are no instructions or recipes or anything inside the box.
The press does not press out the dough thin enough-there are no adjustments you can make. I returned the product to Amazon.
Customer Review: Works great for me! Summary: 5 Stars
The one I received had little grease on it, not that it would have bothered me much anyway.
It also presses the tortillas paper thin. In fact, I had to be careful not to get them too thin at first.
Recommend lining each side with plastic when pressing. Then transfer pressed tortilla to a piece of wax paper then onto the grill. That's just the easiest way we found to tranfer them.
Served warm with some queso fresca - yum!
Customer Review: Make your own tortillas and have fun at the same time Summary: 5 Stars
The tortilla press works perfectly, after a little practice. Our first batch was an experiment that gave us the correct pressure to apply along with the time and heat to cook the tortillas. We also found that cutting the sides of a freezer storage bag to provide a surface for the pressed tortillas worked best for lining the tortilla press. We just had a fiesta and served a large batch of homemade tortillas, thanks to the Victoria Cast Iron Tortilla Press.
Customer Review: Not convinced... Summary: 3 Stars
I'm not convinced that a Tortilla Press is really worth the money, but perhaps I'm doing something wrong. I'm unsure what it does you couldn't pretty much do just as easily with a rolling pin.
With that said, this cast iron one is probably the best you are going to find for the money. I wish it wasn't "tinned" and was just straight up cast iron, and it would be nice if it was 2 or 3 times bigger so you could make big burrito sized tortillas.
Customer Review: Not What I Had In Mind Summary: 2 Stars
WOW! This thing is built for the ages no doubt about it. On the other hand it is impossible to get an even thickness for a flour tortilla. I think it would be fine if you are making corn, but I wanted this for making whole wheat tortillas. They are so thick in the middle and thin around the edges that they are more like a flatbread then a wrap type tortilla. If anyone has a better press for flour I'd love to know about it!
