Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Imusa VICTORIA-85008 Victoria Cast Iron Tortilla Press, 8-InchCustomer Review: Does the job Summary: 4 Stars
We just bought this and made tortillas for the first time and think it worked quite well. True to the other reviews it came a little greasy, but with a simple wash it was fine. I actually use Pam spray to keep the masa from sticking so it's always a little greasy anyways. Took a few tries to figure out how to get them to the right consistency, but with the right masa mixture and a few attempts it makes great tortillas. The product is exactly what it says it is so I would recommend it.
Customer Review: Waste of money - Could not use it. Summary: 1 Stars
I want to rate this product at 0 stars.
Exectations: Press,
should be able to make at least 7" or 8" tortillas with ability to control the thickness.
Results: Could not even make 5" tortillas and does not have any control to get required thickness or the shapes. Read through all kids of suggestions... used the ziploc to get clean and non sticky surface... FAILED to get atleast one good shaped evenly flat tortilla.
DO NOT recommend this product.
Customer Review: Magnificent Summary: 5 Stars
I received this only today and we have already sat down to fresh corn tortillas for our lunch. I rate this highly for ease of use, good instructions and fantastic results. I had already purchased some masa harina and it mixed and pressed perfectly. The packaging was great and only a quick hot hand wash to ensure the presevat was removed - not that it was noticeable. Definitely use plastic as recommended and you can't go wrong. No more tortillas full of preservatives for this family!
Customer Review: terrible paint job Summary: 1 Stars
This tortilla press had everything going for it. It was heavy, it felt sturdy, and it was cast iron. The down side? The cheap chrome/silver paint job. It rubs off very easily. You are instructed to use plastic or wax paper to make the tortillas but who wants to risk ingesting paint chips? I would not feel comfortable giving this as a gift. I hope the company ditches the paint job in the future.
Also, this item is manufactured in Columbia and imported into the USA.
Customer Review: I broke two within minutes Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased one of these at a local store. The handle snapped off on the second tortilla I pressed, with very little pressure applied. Took the press back and got another. The base plate cracked after about 8 tortillas--again hardly any pressure. I was applying so little pressure on the second press, fearing that I'd snap the handle again, that the tortillas were coming out much to thick. It broke anyway. A worthless piece of junk. I'll just make my own out of wood.
