Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Imusa VICTORIA-85008 Victoria Cast Iron Tortilla Press, 8-InchCustomer Review: Produces thick, uneven tortillas - requires rolling after pressing Summary: 2 Stars
I must have gotten one of the sloppily manufactured presses with the off-centered hinge. This creates a large gap near the hinge, resulting in very thick tortillas on one side, and thin on the other. As a result, I end up rolling the tortillas after pressing. Apparently, there is some luck involved in whether or not you will get a properly functioning tortilla press. In today's business environment, who can afford quality control?
To date, most of the items that I have purchased through Amazon have been of high quality. Unfortunately, this item missed that mark. As the old saying goes, "You pay's your money, you takes your chances..."
Customer Review: Makes great flour tortillas as well Summary: 5 Stars
I purchase this actually to make flour tortillas, especially for our daughter who is vegan. She was home from college over the Christmas break and said, "It would be great to have a burrito, too bad we don't have any flour tortillas." We looked up a flour tortilla recipe that was vegan approved, using shortening rather than lard, and then whipped up a batch. I used the press to get the basis shape and initial thickness. The first tortilla was too thick so for the rest, I pressed and my daughter rolled then a bit thinner with a rolling pin. Everyone loved the results!
Customer Review: Target needs better shipping practices! Summary: 1 Stars
The shipping box the press came in had no filler, so the tortilla press just bounced around in the larger shipping box. I can imagine this is why the handle was broken when I received the press. Very poor shipping process Target! I returned this item for a refund. I would not recommend ordering this item unless you want to go through the hassle of having to return it. I only gave it one star because I wasn't able to use it. This reivew is for Target's shipping practices, not the item itself. I didn't get a chance to use it because it arrived damaged.
Customer Review: So easy to use Summary: 5 Stars
Using this tortilla press, I was able to make a batch of tortillas from start to finish in under 20 minutes. I used a piece of parchment paper folded in half to keep the dough from sticking to the press, and replaced it whenever it got wrinkled or wet. No problems with torn tortillas. Just a dash of olive oil in the dough kept it nice and soft and helped keep it from getting crumbly. The tortillas came out perfectly even. I can't see a reason to ever eat store-bought again. This press is a great buy for the money, well worth it!
Customer Review: Time Saver! Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this item because I was really tired of 'rolling out' the tortilla dough. This press makes it quick and easy; but you have to take a good bit of time to find the proper texture of the dough to get the best press. So, more of an end user issue vs. the product itself. I recommend this item; and so far I am very happy with it. If you have a friend or family member that enjoys cooking up their own specialty foods; this would be a nice addition to their kitchen. Price is nice for gift giving.
