Customer Review: Peeling silver paint ! Do not buy
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased this item after reading reviews here and was excited to use it .After receiving it ,my first impression at the looks of it was not pleasing. Nevertheless I washed it in warm soap water and got rid of the smell from the paint.I used a plastic wrap to make the tortillas as mentioned. The press by itself is very nice with a good weight and design. But it has its flaws which made me return the unit.I never rate anything low unless it is really really horrible.

Pros: Heavy weight
Makes more or less even tortillas( corn) I tried making with wheat flour but they weren't as thin I expected them to get
Makes the job easy and quick if using for corn or other flours which are like crumbly when mixed with water.

Cons:The whole press is sprayed with a disgusting horrible silvery paint.
The paint peels off every time you touch it directly.I know it is there to coat the surface and protect it.But it can be something that does not peel off every time you touch it.
The paint at the joint where the lever presses peeled out in small amounts and almost got in to my tortillas. I tried to convince myself that it could be fixed . But NO ! It just comes off on your hands and in to the food.
So beware ! If you don't mind the paint in the tortillas buy this. Else I would not recommend it to any one.I am not someone who is overly obsessive with health or any such small matters. But this was really bad.
It is very expensive for the way it is made and painted. It if was simple cast iron, I would be happy to pay 20$ + shipping ! and even take care of it like my other iron griddle.

On the whole not worth buying .

Customer Review: Bad product
Summary: 1 Stars

I received Imusa VICTORIA-85008 Victoria Cast Iron Tortilla Press, 8-Inch in very good condition. There wasn't any grease everything was intact as described in the product page.
The only problem I had is it didn't make Tortilla as thin as I would like to have it. I guess most of the reviews above praise the product on how thin it can make the tortillas. For me it didn't make it. I tried using 2 and 3 layers of butter paper sheet, but still wasn't able to. Then I realised that there was a small gap between the two plates when the plates were pressed against each other. The plates never really touched each other. And I was able to see through this gap. So it was never possible for Imusa VICTORIA-85008 Victoria Cast Iron Tortilla Press, 8-Inch to press tortilla thinner than the gap that was between the two plates.
If you are lucky you would get the Tortilla with no gap between the plate. I guess the lady who has praised the product got the tortilla press with no gap between the plates. Lucky her. I was really looking forward to use this product :(. I guess I wasn't lucky enough. If you are ordering the Imusa VICTORIA-85008 Victoria Cast Iron Tortilla Press, 8-Inch please add special instructions to send the press without any gap between the plates when brought together.

Customer Review: Wonderful...with some adjustments (read below)
Summary: 5 Stars

I will rate this a 5, but with a few comments on adjustments I have made to make this really meet it's potential. First of all, this is very sturdy. I have owned mine for over a month now, and have made a countless amount of flour and corn tortillas since (not bad for a gringo, eh?). Some reviewers mentioned the dough sticking, so having to use parchment paper. No way! I lightly flour the top and bottom every 6 tortillas or so, and remove the flattened dough with a spatula. Works great! For flour tortillas, this press does not get them thin enough for my liking, so I use the press, then use a one-hand rolling pin to flatten it a bit more, rolling it right there on the press or for larger tortillas, on a floured board. Much faster than rolling the whole thing out by hand. Corn tortillas come out just right, as long as you use the spatula. If they are too sticky, add a bit more masa to the dough. Make sure with either recipe, you place the ball of dough slightly off-center toward the hinge before pressing it out.

I never use soap on my press. I believe with cast iron, it is better to let it season to prevent stickiness later on. If needed, I wipe it with a damp towel and store for our next fiesta meal.

To really have super success make sure to let your freshly cooked tortillas steam in a tortilla keeper or under a thick kitchen towel. This will soften them before serving. Good eating!

Customer Review: great product
Summary: 5 Stars

this product is great, i was reading all the reviews before purchasing and wondered about some reviews, because YES it comes with instructions, they are ON THE BOX , yes there is no extra paper, but why , the instruction is on the box in english and spanish! It recommends also to put a plastic bag/ paper between the press, so the dough will not stick. People who don't read the instructions will have a problem working with the tortilla maker. To get the tortilla off the plastic, you first lift it from one side off, put the plastic back on and flip it over , now you take the plasic of this side off, keep it off, turn it over and take the other already loosened up plastic off, now you can bake it in the pan. This whole procedure is important, so you don't ripp the tortilla since it is thin! frying - no oil - and about 50 sconds each side, heat up the pan first before you start, it frys better. if you take a piece of dough the size of a golf ball or little smaller, you get about a 5-6 inc tortilla, put the ball a little off center- like somebody else already recommended - more toward the back and the tortilla comes out more even- you may have to try out a bit - remember just when you started playing with play dough? trying out different things? :) One thing is true- it is time consuming, but to do it together as a family is the most fun! My whole family loves it! Hope this review is helpful!

Customer Review: Great money saving product
Summary: 5 Stars

amazon does not pack this well as our handle was broke, we e-mailed amazon & they sent us a pre-paid return shipping label & sent another before we sent the broke one back. Works Great, presses pie and pizza crusts too. Easy Tortilla's: 4 cups flour, 2 tsp. salt, 1/2 cup oil or shortening ( shortening is best ), 1 cup very warm but not hot water, mix flour and salt in a bowl & sift if possible ( add a pinch of baking powder for fluffier torts ), add oil or shortening & mix until well distributed, add warm water & mix till it clumps into a semi dry doe ball, turn out & knead about 50 times trying not to over work the doe ( overworking makes the doe tough ), divide & form into small balls cover & let stand 15 minutes ( getting the size of these doe balls rite for a proper tort takes some adjusting ball size to get a perfect size tort ), line both sides of press with wax paper or plastic wrap to avoid sticking ( a touch of cooking oil on wax/plastic wrap aids the pressing process & torts peel off rite into your hand ), brown lightly on both sides in cast iron pan, Lodge make a good one & Amazon sell it, search for cast iron griddles on amazon, Eat fresh or freeze in zip lock bags to Enjoy latter. YUM YUM, Enjoy!!!
