Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Imusa Tortilla Warmer

Customer Review: Beware!
Summary: 3 Stars

Although this tortilla warmer does the job, it is more plastic looking and not as clay looking as the picture portrays. It came with a large label glued on with glue that defies being removed by normal methods. Why do they do that? I tried pulling it firmly and gently, and just small portions or a layer would come off; I tried soaking it in hot water and that helped only a little. When the paper comes off the glue remains! I nuked it and still failed. Oh well, it's not so good looking that I'll ever display it.....it only serves to keep a small batch of tortillas warm until you eat them and then hide the warmer! Oh, yes, the redeeming qualities are that it's well priced and washable.

Customer Review: Simple Yet Perfect
Summary: 5 Stars

As someone who cooks an inordinate amount of Mexican food, this was something I couldn't believe I went soo long without purchasing. For my purposes it holds enough store bought tortillas although homemade can fill it up quickly. It retains heat quite well and I was very impressed with the ease of cleaning. As others have stated, the manufacturer uses some sort of horrific bonding agent for the label that took extended peeling, chemical residue remover and about 4 soap and water scrubbings to fully remove. That aside it still retains its 5-Star rating as this is the best tortilla warmer I have come across and easily the best one you will find on the market for the price.

Customer Review: Glue removal
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a couple of these and find them well priced and excellent for their intended use(s). However, I was perplexed by the many comments made by amazon customers relating to the label and the problems with it's removal. Here's how it's done EASILY... soak the warmer in a sink of hot tap water (as hot as you can get - DO NOT BOIL IT), the paper label will peel off fairly easily with the aid of your thumb nail and let it dry. What remains is a thin film of glue residue. Use liquid lighter fluid (zippo, ronson, etc. - NOT CHARCOAL LIGHTER) and apply it with an old cloth. The film will easily come off without damage to the plastic underneath. Rewash and you're home free.

Customer Review: Generic Review in favor of product
Summary: 5 Stars

Anyone that's ever been to a Mexican-themed restaurant knows exactly what this item is. This particular one is fairly large and will hold my home-made 8" tortillas nicely. With a damp washcloth (folded twice) and a layer of wax paper on the bottom it will easily hold a dozen home-made 8" tortillas. To reheat tortillas just place the container with the washcloth, wax paper and tortillas into a microwave for 30 seconds to two minutes. (Amount of time depends on: number of tortillas, how cold the whole container is to begin with, and dampness of the washcloth.) Also keeps my tortillas in the refrigerator nicely for a surprisingly-long amount of time.

Customer Review: Nice tortilla warmer
Summary: 4 Stars

I needed an inexpensive tortilla warmer. This one fits the bill. It serves its purpose and I've been quite happy with it. The one problem is that it comes with a label on it that is very hard to get off. It took me a very long time to get it off, and it still shows remnants of the glue even though it has been washed several times. If you don't care about the looks of it (because you may not get the label completely off), it serves its purpose in keeping tortillas warm. Holds the 8" size tortillas.
