This came to me just in the nick of time. Two weeks ago, I bought A Samson NEW 2010 juicer. The auger, clip lock and barrel 'melted together' and the replacement parts are being mailed to me. (There is some question about the screen design and I'm being sent another type of screen) I've already cut, bagged and refrigerated a flat of wheatgrass, 1 flat ready to juice, 1 flat almost ready to juice and 1 flat sprouting, almost ready for a little sunlight........but had no juicer. I was back to the juice bar at $5/2 oz of wheatgrass, plus gas @ $3.75/gallon to drive there and back..... I was told a few days for the parts, but I guess they will get here when they get here.

Also, Im letting you know that there is a 20% re-stocking fee if you return an item, regardless and after 30 days will NOT accept a return, as policy for some companies. You will have a 10 or 15 years warranty, so that's reassuring because I suspect I might have issues with my electric juicer again. The policy for the Hurricane from this company is 100%, it has a high re-sale value and can be used towards the purchase of another machine -

Anyway, the same day the manufacturer promised to send out replacement parts, I ordered the Hurricane manual. I thought I might just eat the re-stocking fee, but since I don't have replacement parts, my 30 days will be up.

The manual arrived just in time. It was so straight forward and easy to set up - very few parts. I cleaned the parts and put it back together. I attached it to my cutting board. I decided to juice with the screen because I thought it might extract more juice with it in. I had to figure out how to receive the pulp and juice (the receptacle needs to be short and small that would easily fit underneath the outlet - maybe later I will figure out a way to mount the device that gives height or distance between the bell and the counter surface - any ideas?). Anyway, I got perfect wheatgrass juice. The electric (seems all of them ) gives a head of foam, like on beer, but I got zero to very little foam. The pulp wasn't warm (like it sometimes is after re-feeding the pulp on my electric - btw, if this issue doesn't resolve with the new screen, it may be another reason to take advantage of the incredible warranty in the future). I like that the parts in this Hurricane are ALL stainless steel - so no 'FDA' plastic to worry about like with my electric. And the clean up was amazing, so easy, less than a minute.

I had to tighten the device to the cutting board because while cranking it started to slip, so I have to be mindful of that before juicing. The other issue I had was that the blades got stuck in the auger and pulp stopped ejecting. I took it apart and reassembled, but that didn't help. I added an apple slice, thinking that would send the grass forward. Maybe that helped? but it started again when I started adding larger amounts of wheatgrass. I'm not sure, but it seems to give traction or tightens the space between the auger and the barrel or bell which seems to move the grass forward on the auger. It takes a little more effort for one or two cranks, but the juice just falls out beautifully. I can juice a lot of grass at once - so it takes less time than with the electric. I think I was used to my electric requiring me to place only a thumb-width of grass through the shoot at a time. It takes so much longer to juice wheatgrass that way. This few blades at a time doesn't seem to work for this manual - I think that's a good thing :)

I'm not sure when I'll get the replacement parts for my Samson. I could keep both; for times that I just don't want to crank it through ( I'm sure there will be times where an electric will feel like a holiday from turning the handle). I can use my Samson and when the electric breaks down, I know I will always have a reliable method of juicing grass with my manual and a 15 year warranty on the other. I also like that the manual is small (no motor), so if I want to take the manual juicer with me away from home, for example to work, I easily could. I already know that I have no intention of keeping my Samson a lifetime, but eventually I'll get my money's worth out of the Samson (not having to wait 15 years). Maybe by then, I'll have better research and saved money for a better machine - with more/all stainless steel parts. But already I know I'll keep this Hurricane - and it looks like it's built to last a lifetime.

Good investment no matter what (in my opinion).
