I researched automatic hard floor cleaners for a few months before I purchased this machine, the Hoover H3045 FloorMate SpinScrub Wide-Path Hard-Floor Cleaner some weeks ago, and didn't use it until today. Conversely, I purchased two steam cleaners prior to this machine, because I thought they would be better. The problem with the steam cleaners is that they use cloths that have to be washed, so I don't use them very often. They are cumbersome to use and I was looking for something more practical; something that required less work and effort on my part. This machine is it. Even after I received the Hoover in the mail, I remained a bit skeptical and continued to clean my floors the conventional way every few days--on hands and knees. I have three large dogs--each over 100 lbs--and they track in quite a bit of dirt, especially when it rains, and I have about 800 square feet of tile flooring in my kitchen where everyone hangs out and life happens. So, today was the day I broke out this amazing little machine and viola, within a half hour my kitchen floor was sparkling clean. Based on the reviews I read, I didn't use the dry vacuum, opting for the conventional method instead. However, the machine sucked up the dirty water so well that I didn't have to use the wet pickup option either. Although I didn't use the grout brushes, the machine cleaned the grout lines just fine. I venture to guess that if they had been really dirty, I would have had to use the grout brushes and cleaner. If I were to change anything about the machine, it would be the water reservoirs--I'd make them larger to avoid frequent emptying of the dirty water and frequent refilling of the cleaning water solution. I would also have the machine dispense more water onto the floor as it's cleaning. The bottom line is that I think this machine I worth every penny I spent on it and I'm only kicking myself for not using it sooner.
Fast Forward a few months; it's December 2009, I still have the machine and I still use it regularly. I found that one has to move the machine slowly across the floor to make sure it cleans thoroughly, and all of the water gets picked up. I keep the water dispenser button activated the entire time, so I use a lot of water, and I make sure the water I use is really hot--it makes a difference. Also, I no longer use Hoover floor cleaner solution; it contains chemicals I'm not willing to use. I now use "Holy Cow" cleaning solution (the green stuff), which is chemical free and wholly biodegradable = green. That stuff leaves my floors absolutely clean, and with the help of the FloorMate, cleaning my floors is a cinch.
