Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Hoover FloorMate SpinScrub Wet/Dry Vacuum Cleaner, H3044Customer Review: Best floor scrubber we have ever owned Summary: 4 Stars
Recently purchased the H3040 new on Craigslist for $50 (it was pure luck) and will never regret it. This is a light weight, sturdy and agile machine that does the job as well as one could expect. Our worn wood and tile floors get absolutely filthy thanks to 3 dogs and too many cats. Because of the constant heavy critter shedding I vacuum first and then use the H3040 with hot water and a decent household cleaner--liquid Spic and Span works fine. I do this several times as week..as needed..and the dirty water is almost black and the amount of additional pet hair the unit picks up is a testament to it effectiveness. We owned several older Hoover floor cleaners and none of them matched the way this unit works. We opt to use the hard brush instead of the softer one and that seems to be a smart choice for our needs since concern over hurting our floors is not an issue. Cleaning small sticky spots involves wetting the area and then waiting a moment for the dirt to soften so it can be easily sucked up. It beats the Swifter in every way and cleaning up the Hoover H3040 is a snap. The Hoover does not dump a lot of water on the floor and easily sucks up most of it,but it does leave a little behind at times so we use a fan and open a door or window to quickly finish the drying.I did notice that it seems to clean better on the wood floors if I run parallel to the wood strips and not against them. We also do not attempt to use the H3040 as a vacuum cleaner since our regular Hoover does that job better.
I am much more of a clean freak than my spouse so it makes me very happy to see our floors look and smell better thanks to the Hoover. The bottom line is that I would recommend the H3040 to anyone with dirt problems like ours.Nor would we hesitate a moment to pay twice the price for a new one if heaven forbid something happened to this unit.
Customer Review: it's less dirty but is it clean? Summary: 2 Stars
I bought the H3044 Floormate from amazon for use on a car showroom floor that had become quite dirty over time. It was easy to setup and use and before long, I had nasty, dirty water flowing into the tank. I felt I had made the right purchase.
But the more I looked at the floor I just couldn't tell if it was really clean or just less dirty. I took a clean white rag and rubbed the floor I had just cleaned and it showed the floor was hardly clean. I then took some Simple Green and was able to get the spot truly clean with just a few seconds of rubbing. The emotional letdown had begun.
I then tried the Floormate again using hotter water, more solution, and more passes. I even lite some candles and called upon the gods of floor cleaning, all to no avail. Next, I called Hoover customer service who informed me this unit had a problem with the wonder brushes not touching the ground. She was right because as I flipped over my unit the brushes were perfectly white, untouched by dirt. She said not to be discouraged because the Hoover boys down in the lab had just redesigned the unit so that the brushes actually touched the floor now! How cool is that?! This means the new one might actually work! She was very nice but didn't know why the old one was still being sold and there were no mods to make mine work. Gee, thanks Hoover! She said the new unit was model # FH400101B as in "Frank Henry". I quipped that I thought it stood for "F.. Hoover".
I haven't purchased Rev B yet because so many of the reviews by long term owners of the Floormates have correctly identified that this unit is a throw-away product if something breaks. It is 100% plastic and parts are not going to be available when, not if, they break. There's enough junk created every year, not sure if I want to add to it in 3 years by tossing a floormate onto the pile.
Customer Review: Not for Grout Summary: 2 Stars
I really needed to find a cleaner that would clean grout since my whole house is basically tile. I have used the shark hand steamer with the scrub brush with great results but it was so labor intensive that it took nearly 4 hours to do 10 square feet. We also have the shark steam mop that cleans the floors so well, but does zero for the grout. I thought this Floormate would be a good way to solve me problem of dirty grout without killing myself. Even with the grout solution and special grout brush, the grout was not cleaned even the tiniest bit. I tried applying pressure to the head with my foot and that helped a wee bit, but it still wasn't clean. Then I dipped a toothbrush directly in the grout cleaner and scrubbed lightly and that worked pretty well and then went back over it with the Spin Scrub and got good results, but that kind of defeats the purpose if I have to do that. BUT I learned the grout solution could work if the brushes actually hit the grout, which they don't and they aren't firm enough to do give a good scrub even if they did. The grout solution smelled an awful lot like Windex to me so I decided I decided to dip the toothbrush in Windex and scrub the grout. It worked just as well and then I wiped it up with a clean cloth. So the grout cleaner works, but so does Windex! I will say this for for the Floormate 3044, it does clean the tile really well. And there is no doubt about it, so if grout is not your concern then I am certain you will love this Floormate. It makes cleaning so much more efficient since you can vacuum and mop at the same time, without using the same dirty water. But if you have other floor cleaning devices, and are looking for a way to clean your grout this will not do it. It seems a scrub brush and hard work is the only solution for getting grout clean.
Customer Review: very dissatisfied Summary: 1 Stars
I ordered 2 of these because my sister-in-law and I just had laminate wood look flooring installed in most of the rooms in our homes.
Hers was installed professionally, mine was a family project. I only say this to qualify my findings.
She has not said much, and as it was a gift, only said it worked (washing feature) ok on her inlaid 12" kitchen tiled floor: this said she still has her old wet mop sitting there. She also said it works "ok" to vacuum the dog hair, but she still uses a wet flat mop to do that. (Feel free to take you own guess as to why she still has all of her old utensils out.) I have linoleum instead of tile:in all applications it is hopeless. As it the sweeps, it blows most of the dust and dog hair away from it instead of sucking it in. The "moping" feature is, I am guessing here, too high up from the floor and no matter which way you turn the direction of sweeping, it doesn't touch the floor.I have the same problem as others have noted as far as the spray not working correctly. I started just using squirt stuff right in front of it applied by me with a spray bottle, yet the mop didn't clean anything. I tried it slow, fast, handle tiled down, straight up-- all but stood on my head, and nothing i did made it any better. I had a neighbor look at the directions, and my instillation of the rotary brushes to make sure I had done it correctly. He redid it, but said it looked fine to him, and afterwords I tried it again and got the same results. Very expensive error in judgment on my part - I ordered it ahead of time for Christmas-Nov birthday and didn't take them out and try them right away. Also managed to lose track of the paper work. Otherwise I certainly would have returned them. Mine is going into the church garage sale--sad :-(
Customer Review: God! I love this machine Summary: 5 Stars
All I can say is, I love this machine. First, a disclaimer. I am a slob! A woman in her forties who hates housework and rarely does any. I watch "How Clean is Your House" because it makes me feel better about myself.
That said, I bought this machine reluctantly. I had read about this particular machine about a year ago when I once again decided "I have got to do something about this sty." Then I read a bunch of reviews and saw phrases like "cheap plastic" and "stopped working for no reason" and was frightened off.
About a month ago, I took the plunge. One of the reasons I hate housework so much is I'm always injuring myself on various appliances. The Floormate is so finger and hand friendly. No rough edges where the user could catch a finger or nick a knuckle or break a nail. Very nicely designed. Speaking of design, this machine is so easy to use and stays so clean, regardless of what you're picking up off your floor. The solution well snaps in and out easily and the dirty water well does the same and when you're finished using it rinses completely very easily and stores easily as well. These are the two most important things to me. Will it hurt me and is it easy?
Yes, it does get the floors clean. Do not expect the same result as you would on your knees with a bucket and a scrub brush. But you get about 80% as clean for only about 20% the effort and about 1% of the sloppy mess. For the price, I highly recommend it. Also, don't feel compelled to use the solutions they supply and recommend. I like to use Murphy's Oil Soap on my wood floors and Breath-O-Pine on my tile floors and the machine works great with these cleaning agents. I just wouldn't put floor wax in the machine--as they warn against.
