Customer Review: Better than the one from the hardware store

We usually have our carpets cleaned once or twice a year by a professional service and at other times I have rented a machine from the hardware store. Since both my daughters now have dogs and they are frequent visitors I thought I should invest in my own steam-vac. My allergies really act up when the dogs are around.
I purchased the Hoover steam vac based on reviews here at Amazon and at other places. It was highly recommended everywhere, and I would absolutely agree with those reviews.
When it arrived I assembled it and tried it out on a wool rug that is just inside the front door (a place where the dogs like to sit and look out at the neighbors). I was amazed (and appalled) at the gunk that came out of that rug. The Hoover did a much better job than I have ever been able to do with the rental machines. I also tried it out on a few places where there were stains and it got everything as clean as when the professionals do it. I suspect that the detergent has a lot to do with how well this steam vac performs. They send a small bottle of cleaner with the vac and I quickly used it up during my rug cleaning frenzy. I substituted Method cleaner (you can get it at Target and other places) for the Hoover stuff and I think it worked just as well. It didn't even foam.
What I really like about the Hoover is the ease of use. It is a bit heavy, but adding cleaning solution to the tank was very easy and cleaning out the waste solution is simple and efficient. I never had one of those "Now why did they do it that way?" moments.
The Hoover steam vac works well, is easy to operate , and cost less than one visit from the professionals. It can be used all over the house. I would say it is a product that lives up to its advertising.
