Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Honeywell QuietCare Cool-Moisture Humidifier, 3-Gallon, HCM-630Customer Review: I love this humidifier Summary: 5 Stars
This is by far the best humidifier I've ever purchased - I'm surprised it's gotten so many bad reviews. It puts a whole heckuva lot of moisture into the air - you can really feel the difference in the room. We live in an extremely dry apartment, so I really needed something that worked well. It also never never leaks - a problem I've had with many humidifiers. We have it sitting directly on a piece of wooden furniture with no harm done.
I don't find the tank design particularly cumbersome. Perhaps it isn't the BEST design, but I've never come even close to dropping it and I have no problem getting it to balance sufficiently as I fill it.
The filters need replacing somewhat frequently, but so have the filters for all other machines I've used - this one is no worse.
The only complaint I think is valid is that it IS a little loud on the high setting. I prefer this, myself, as I like white noise while I sleep. Also, the breeze from it is pretty cool, which I also like. If you don't like the breeze, it should be easy to aim away from you.
Customer Review: Great while it worked. Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this humidifier about 2 years ago to humidify the kitchen. It worked so well that it humidified the kitchen and dining room! I measured RH at 65% when running it all out. However, it was only a test. Indoor RH that high is not good for the structure. It never leaked, I could use tap water and it would run all night, sometimes up to 12 hours! It was rather quiet but since I did not have it in the bedroom, it really didn't matter. BUT: The second dry winter season it started leaking and performance seemed to decline. I placed it in a plastic storage bucket in order to contain the water because it still worked. But the filters cost $10 a pop and are only available on-line. The filters also seemed to get dirty faster and the motor seemed to struggle. Finally, the water tank cracked causing more leakage. So I had to give up and throw it out. I bought an ultra sonic humidifier for the bedroom. I would recommend an ultra sonic model if you want quiet, efficient operation but use distilled water!
Customer Review: Works as Expected Summary: 4 Stars
It was difficult to select my first humidifier after reading all the good/bad reviews on various models. I picked Honeywell after doing research online and speaking to friends.
PROS: Great for occasional use so I don't really have to refill it much. I only use it for sleeping and prefer the low fan speed which really is quiet. Sturdy and simple design. Price. I didn't want to spend more than $50-60. Protek balls are inexpensive and don't rack up the bill if you use the humidifier less frequently. I prefer the smaller water tank as it's easier to carry when it's full. Easy to clean.
CONS: Humidstat doesn't work well in the bedrooms. The humidifier rarely shuts off when a lower setting is selected. Need to buy a hygrometer to check humidity level. I empty out the whole unit when it's not in use. It's very easy to spill water out of the base when you pick it up. Need to be careful that the water tank is sealed properly before usage and that you don't drop it!
Customer Review: Quiet Care Humidifier Summary: 4 Stars
The humidifier does run quietly. It comes apart easily for cleaning - three pieces to be exact. The only drawback with this humidifier is the humidistat. It's mounted above the motor that gets warm after running for a while. After turning off, the warmth of the motor prematurely turns the humidifier back on making the room more humid. They should have isolated the humidistat from the motor and have it ventilated to the outside. I have a Slant/Fin GF-300 warm mist humidifier that has the same problem (till I removed the humidistat entirely from the case). Now it's working far more accurately with the humidistat installed in it's own ventilate box, wired up with a male plug (plugged into an outlet) and a female outlet to plug in the warm mist humidifier into. Will have to purchase a separate humidistat & have this Honeywell HCM-630 plugged into it for more precise humidity control. Otherwise it runs very well and quietly. I only use the lower speed as it's more quiet and uses less energy.
Customer Review: Good product, misleading on Capacity, but improved tank design Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased 2 HCM-630 humidifiers on the basis of the reviews. It works very well, quiet enough for me. However, there is very misleading information on the tank capacity -all the indications are that it hold 3 gallons-NO! (I got the information from Matt of Kaz, Inc. help desk) On the cover of the Owner's Manual it states "3 US Gallons (11.3 Liters) OUTPUT PER DAY"! It is suppose to put out 3 gallons of mist a day, but the tank holds only 1.5 Gallons! That was the answer to why I had to refill it so often.
Pros - works very well, quiet, and really puts out the moisture without any of the white residue.
Cons - misleading water capacity and need to refill often.
PRO - By the way, Kaz-Honeywell has redesigned the water tank so the top is more flat (they responded to customer complaints?) and can be held on a surface while refilling. Also, I think the flatter design has increased the tank capacity.
Yes, I recommend it.
